How is it I'm getting killed by a single frag grenade with full shields? I don't mean frag, head shot, I mean someone throws a frag around a corner and I die.

What's the secret?

And while I'm asking for pointers, how do you lunge 20 feet with a shooty?

Thanks.

Compounding my frustration is I play with a friend on my 50" LCD. We play team slayer, split screen and if you check out my stats, you'll see that the guy I play with sucks most of the time. I lost 5 levels last night. We went 2-21. It was really frustrating.

The only way I know to be killed by a single frag is if your health (which does exist in a small amount, replenishes and is invisible) is depleted. Try starting up a custom and dropping a frag at your feet. Wait for your shields to recharge, and try it again - the second one will kill you.

I thought it was the third one that kills you. Remember to let your shield completely recharge, though.

I've seen and experienced cases where 1 grenade has killed from full health, but I think it has something to do with being host, though I can't remember precisely.

I know for a fact, beyond any doubt at all that I've been killed many times with full shields by a single frag.

The last time it happened was last night on Elongation. I just slipped out of a double team by the crates. I ran up the ramp, waited for my shield to regenerate, crouched down walking toward the walkway with the shotgun and all in the sudden, from below a frag was thrown, I heard it hit, explosion, death.

My shields were full.

wtf did I tell you about forgetting to hit the space bar after commas, periods, exclamation marks, and question marks?!Don't do it, please.

Normally, when you get killed by "one frag grenade" it's really more than one exploding in the air at the same time. They will throw one, and you will throw one as their's explodes at the same time, causing 2 grenades to explode at once in your face.

You are absolutely correct. This has happened to me many many times. I had been wondering the same thing myself, and I do not believe that is the "health" theory (your shield IS your health), nor is it the theory about "two grenades". I have been killed by a single grenade quite a few times after I had just spawned, and other times in the middle of nowhere where a random grenade is thrown in my direction. It does seem like these types of things is happening on a larger scale more recently than ever. I'm not sure if it's because of increased lag, or something being done to the mechanics of the game on Live, or what it is....all I know is it is ANNOYING and frustrating to play multi-player anymore because of the ridiculous kills that people get away with and/or the random deaths I and others I play with have had to suffer through.

Because you just came from a double team, your health was probably low. Not your shields, you health. It is invisible in Halo 2, but it's there. And, if you have no health , then one grenade will kill you even if you have full shields.

Prove that there is "health". Tell me where I can read that it is mentioned that you have health, as well as a shield, in Halo 2.

Start up a game on lockout. Go down below the lift and blow up the barrel with your gun. Then, go into one of the corners. Throw a grenade at your feet. Let your shield go all the way up. Throw another grenade at your feet. Let your shield go all the way up. Then throw a third grenade at your feet, and it will kill you.

Well that's news to me. Thanks for the feedback.

What about lunging 20 feet with a shotty? That's a button combo eh?

  • 08.02.2007 10:15 AM PDT

If I had the answer, I wouldn't be asking, would I?? Hmmm...?

i hear what everyone is saying about testing the grenade theory, but i'm still not buying it. it would explain the one-grenade kill (which happens to me too), but it goes against how shields are suppose to work. let's say there is invisible health (along with a golden warthog), will your health eventually replenish or does it stay "low" until you die?

as far as lunging with a shotty: they are probably doing the melee lunge/cancel/shoot you in the face trick.

Your 'health' as I understand it, is what keeps you from being killed by one shot in the back in, say, a SWAT game. It takes almost half a clip to kill someone in the back. This is due to your 'health', I believe...however, I might be wrong. Please feel free to correct me.

Good question. It does seem odd to me, this invisible health theory.

  • 08.02.2007 10:44 AM PDT

It IS the health theory. I have tested it multiple times. After 2 grenades with full shields (2 or 3, I don't remember exactly), if you throw a 3rd(or 4th) it will kill you. Also after 2(or 3) grenades, one shot to the body with the sniper will kill you.

Yes there is health, no it doesn't replenish.

If you throw a grenade at your feet, then have someone shoot you in the back with the BR until you die, count how many shots it takes.

Then do it again, minus one shot so you're still alive. Wait two minutes to test for any replenishing, then have him BR you in the chest and the first one to make you lose your shield should also kill you.

Nope, that's damage resistance, one of the options. :P

Shotgun is the most common weapon to use for this button-glitch, which, by the way (sighs for the millionth time...), is cheating. The way you tell an opponent has done it to you, or someone else? Besides the lunge, the shotgun fires straight up into the air.

Don't do it.

Yeah, that's what I thought.

I'm not down with button glitches or whatever. I was hoping it was a legit thing that I was just doing wrong.

I think it has to do with proximity. Close by may not kill you. Close to contact distance will.
