I've read somewhere (another forum, i dunno) that XBConnect is superior to Xbox LIVE in the sense that it's just as effective, and it's free.

Now, my question is - What is the difference between the two, in interface and in functions?

Are LIVE games playable over XBConnect? I've also heard that HALO was playable over XBConnect. I thought it wasn't LIVE compatible, so how can you play online with XBC?

I've only played one game o live - Mechassault - and wondered how XBC works, and if it's got the headset compatibility and like Optimatch and stuff.

Anyone wanna help me out that knows their stuff?

Live>>>>>>>>>>>>>>& gt;>>>>>>>>>>>>>>&g t;>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ;>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>& gt;>>>>>>>>>>>>>>&g t;>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ;>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>XBConnect...

Not as many people on XBConnect. No Voice. No scoreboards. No friends list. No cross-game invites. a lot more lag. hard to find games (they kick you if you only have 1 player). No clan support.

This list goes on and on. XBConnect is for the people who cant afford $50 a year

XBConnect isnt "LIVE"... Its a program that you download that fools your Xbox into thinking you are hooked to other Xboxes through System Link, but you are really hooked to your router...

You need:
Xbox hooked to router
PC hooked to router
XBConnect on your PC

And if you want to play Halo for example. You have to play System Link, and you can play online that way. But its VERY laggy

XBC sucks big and Live rocks. Live is the best option if you can afford it but a better alternative to XBC is Xlink

No, its better to spend the $60 on Live. You get voice communication, you get the friends list which is cross games, and the real clincher, you get all of the downloadable content. XBConnect is a nice thought for those games which aren't LIVE but, for those that are, its not worth it. If your fussing about paying $5 a month...I'm suprised you even buy games.

Regardless, you get what you pay for.

Thanks a lot for the heads-up, you guys. I guess the annual $50 IS worth it.

hell yes its worth it. the biggest problem with Live is you also have to have a high-speed internet connection, like cable or DSL. i've had lag problems with Live (especially in Unreal Championship), but from what i hear, the lag is almost nothing when compared to XBC. i'm trying to figure out if the lag problems in UC come from my intermet connection (its kinda flaky at my house) or just a lack of Live testing on Epic's part. does anyone else play UC live? do you have this same kind of problem?

You are incorrect, as are many other posters. There is a friends list, there is cross-game invites and there is voice. Yes the game has to support voice, but how is that different from a Live game? Its just that all Live games require voice where as XBC supports many games that are not Live. You mentioned no clan support. Just out of curiosity, how many XBL games do you know that support clans?

The fact is XBC is a wonderful program that supports many features. There are a few primary drawbacks that would makes you choose Live over it though.

1. Finding games is MUCH more difficult. Can take forever to find a game that will connect right. Then if you don't have enough people you are likely to be kicked. The reason you are kicked for not having enough people and another reason it is hard to find a good game fall under drawback 2.

2. Games are laggy. The more boxes a host has connected the worse the lag is, therefore people try to find clumped together players. This code is NOT optimized for the internet (the game is running in a mode designed for system link) and so is often times very laggy and many times unplayable.

3. Its easier to interface straight from your Xbox than it is to have to keep running to your computer

I agree whole heartedly that Live is better, but some of you need to stop making things up. XBC is a great way of playing games with out Live support and has many features thats Live does.
