Hi guys, I want to host a Halo and/or HaloCE server, but I got stuck when deciding what method to use. See, as I understand it a dedicated server is only dedicated if no other major process is running to slow it down, therefore needing a machine to itself. No problem, except the only such machine I have at my disposal is a P3 800MHz with 256 ram. Now, I've no idea what kind of processing power you need to host a game for say... well the maximum is obviously 16 players, but that's assuming my 1.1MB/s connection wouldn't cause enough lag of its own. But anyway, my current PC (spec listed below) is considerably more powerful than this potential dedicated server, so I'm wondering, would it not be better to simply host the game normally through Halo instead of having a dedicated machine? Or would playing Halo on the same machine under any circumstance still be more laggy than even a comparatively weak dedicated server?
PS I was able to host 8 people with a AMD XP3000+, 512 RAM, 576Kb/s ADSL and the max lag was 158. Unfortunately I don't have that machine as a candidate for dedicated server, but at least that gives some perspective of what lag a non-dedicated host can do.
