I'm looking for other players who would be interested in playing on a server to receive the Violent Cartographer, Rainman and Decorated Soldier achievements. Anyone interested?

Definently me.

They're called 'achievements' because they're meant to be 'achieved' by the player. Creating a server for the sheer purpose of cheating achievements is lame.

And who mentioned anything about cheating or staging?

Creating a server to deliberately obtain achievements for everyone definitely comes off to me as a staged event to cheat the system and get the achievements.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time. I know who you are. You are destiny.

Just play the damn game, the achievements will be unlocked eventually. Besides, they don't actually do anything do they? It's like someone giving you a scrap of paper that says "I R TEH COOLZ!"

Yeah... anyways, making a server just to get Achievements is kinda lame...

Hello, Community!

Hopefully if you're reading this, it's because you're interesting in kicking your campaign experience up a notch by cranking up the Legendary with all skulls activated :-) Need advice? A guide? Maybe even a friendly community to cheer you on and help guide you through the process? Then give our Mythic thread a read, and Godspeed on your Mythic journey!

The Tyrant

Not when you think about it. I say the Rainman and Violent Cartographer achievements are an exception. Why? Halo 2 Vista hasn't quite caught on yet. I still have yet to see a single game hosting Backwash, and most of the servers out there show 0/16 players. So if you're building a server that includes all the maps and game varients with the intent of playing all of them, but not rush through them, you might say that the server was set up for getting the achievements, but you're still doing it for gameplay. As for decorated soldier, the best way to get it is a non-team game of slayer on Zanzibar. Does setting up this map and gametype mean he's cheating? No. He can still get the achievement legitimately, but finding a server with the map and gametype that will even allow you to attempt this achievement is in and of itself a chore. That shouldn't be part of getting the achievement. Gameplay is what should determine it. It isn't the players' fault that Vista (and Halo 2 Vista) haven't caught on yet, and will probably lose a significant amount of players once Halo 3 is released in September.

Not to me. I don't find anything wrong with inviting people to play in order to gain the achievements. Staging is if you told people to stand still so you can get a headshot off of them. Staging is if you brought a bunch of friends together and they willingly stood together in a big circle so you could get a killtacular.

What you say is true, but for the majority, people who ask the populace or a group of friends to get together to 'unlock the achievements', they WILL stage the event. I don't know anyone who totally cares about having every achievement that's a serious professional that is willing to work for every achievement. For the most part, the people who really can unlock the achievements legitimately without resorting to staging are the people who really *don't* care about achievements for the most part. Yes, I'm speaking ahead of myself and no, I don't know if Smoth 007 staged the achievements or worked with a group legitimately to obtain them, but the odds greatly favor that Smoth 007 did indeed stage the event based on the community as a whole.

Well, then, that makes sense. You should have mentioned that earlier!

Certainly not playing Halo 2 Vista.

Achievement Unlocked- 100 Gamerscore

  • 08.05.2007 7:16 PM PDT

Achievements are stupid. They don't unlock anything, and a lot of them are easy to get anyway

Stick an opponent with a plasma grenade
Board an enemy controlled vehicle
Asassinate someone

Meh. Just something that's tacked on, really.

Slaying noobs since 2007.

Yeah, say "I'm a ninja!" four-thousand times and get the "I'm Naruto" achievement worth, negative 10,000 gamerscore, and a pat on the back for -blam!-ness.

Hey you saw my sig! :)
Their was a time when this was under a post. Simpler times; no Halo 3 Forum and no search. Simpler times. Happy about search though.

It's called planning.

Yes, planning to cheat the system to get points that in the long run bear no merit... Having 1000 GS for Halo 2 does not make you good at Halo 2. Training and honing of skill does.

If achievements are so lame and pointless, why does illegitimately obtaining them matter? Just leave him alone and let him waste his time for nothing.

No one has, in your terms, legitmately gotten the Rainman achievement, Scarlet. People, very surprisingly, do not play Phantom Elimination and Swordball and Crazy King. Even "illegitimately" getting the Rainman achievement is an achievement, being able to play 50 gametypes with a group of friends.

However, I did get Violent Cartographer normally. I played Backwash in a CTF game. It's not really too hard to get.
