Sorry if this has been brought up before. I was just wondering if there is any info on a covie sniper rifle. I have seen the screenshot with the two elites and the new covie weapon, is that it?

I know which screenshot you are talking about. (Two Blue -Clad elites carrying pink colored rifles)
No, that does not look like the Covie Sniper rifle.
Its just another Rifle. I think there were talking about Jackals carrying a covie sniper rifle. There was actually a whole post on it.
Now that there is no Search on these forums...good luck trying to find it.

No, that's called the Covenant Carbine. It's just like the human Battle Rifle but for covenant. No one knows if there will be a covenant sniper rifle.

That screen shot shows the Covenant Carbine, not a sniper rifle. Bungie may add one, but hopefully it is not exactly the most overpowered thing in the world. Maybe very good in power(Like shields down and through 3/4 of your health type deal) would be nice. But only the source knows what all new weapons will come in.

I was thinking it would be cool to have a covie sniper rifle, maybe not as powerful as the human sniper rifle, maybe take two shots one body and one head, or three body shots, but maybe carry a little more ammo.

in the latest Xbox magazine one of the lines at the very bottom of pg 34 refers to an unconfirmed "super-powerful covenant sniper rifle" tha has a "high-powered, lightning fast energy blast" of course its unconfirmed still :)

jeebus, i wonder what your idea of overpowered is, if that's only "very good in power." is that for a torso shot, or a head shot?

It wouldn't be that farfetched due to what cortona did with the plasma in the FS book, I bet the covies figured it out to after she used it on them, they could make a sniper rifle with a more focused plasma the same way cortona with the flagship turrets.

That is a torso shot. Over kill is when you die from one shot with full shields and it hit you in the left pinky toe. Kidding around with the toe bit, but should I die from just one shot when I am hit in the stomach and am perfectly healthy, then it is over kill.

if u look in the prehalo screenshots here at bungie.net, it shows the covie sniper in about 2 shots (one is far in the background). i think it looks awesome, but personally...i dont see how plasma would be when shot long range....it just doesnt seem to fit with the way the other plasma works.

Cortona changed the plasma and used it on the covies, she made like a direct laser. If the covies use a more focused plasma shot it would probably work for a long distance rifle.

i understand (sorry, i only read ur topic starter). um, even then, i dont see it being too...effective. after all, the plasma IS being refined on a huge ship, not a small gun. still, i see ur point.

Well if you in reality were hit, Hikaru, with one shot in the stomach with a sniper rifle, you would probably die. Heck, your entire mid-torso would probably be gone. Sniper rifles are capable of massive damage to human flesh, head hit or torso hit. Full body shielding and body armor make it somewhat believable that the chief could survive a sniper shot (especially one with 2552 tech), but the fact still remains that the SR bullet goes through the chief. If a bullet goes straight through him, I think a Spartan should be dead or very close to it.

Basically, what I'm trying to say is that Halo sniping is just plain ridiculous. The SR is too easy to use and just doesn't do enough damage. Personally, I think it needs some big changes for Halo2. One-hit kill to the torso, or at least close to it from a covenant sniper rifle isn't too hard to believe. Assuming it's plasma, the Spartan hit by it would have a hole burned through him. If the pain alone doesn't render him unconcious, he should be on his last leg after that.

I don't know if you were also taking into consideation or not the energy shield. I believe a direct hit without the shield would be lethal but not so necissarily if the person getting attacked has an active shield.

When I said "me" I was referring to me being a Spartan, not as my normal human self. I'm not that dumb, I am well aware of the effects plasma would have. I'm a freaking nerd on this sort of stuff. Trust me, I know I would die real easilly and how it would happen.

What might be interesting would be to take the opposite approach. Say, a much less powerful shot on the covenant sniper rifle. Just think on it, a plasma pistol strength blast but with a 10x zoom and an overheat meter so that you could fire a good number of shots and you wouldn't have to worry about reloading.

Now, consider a Sniper on Sniper fight with both the human rifle and this concocted sniper rifle. The human would only need a couple of hits to kill but the concocted one could keep the human sniper from zooming and properly aiming by peppering him with the lighter hits.

Thats what I was thinking, a rifle that could zoom 10x but not quite as powerful and can shot more repeated shots then the human sniper rifle.

Q

What new weapons will be available in Halo 2?

A

So far there have been a few new weapons revealed. The Battle Rifle is an evolved version of the original assault rifle and features increased accuracy, a scope, and a slower rate of fire. The SMG (Sub Machine Gun) is a rapid-fire gun that trades a high volume of bullets for decreased accuracy. We have also discussed the Covenant Carbine - an energy based sniper weapon. Also, as you now know, players will be able to wield the almightly Covenant energy sword.

Of course these are others, but we can't tell you about them yet.

I've posted this I dont know how many times. AND, since everybody here was claiming that those weapons are indeed the carbine. I believe you now have your answer.

THANK YOU SIR MAY I HAVE ANOTHER!

Read the posts in the forum Kenshinji before you make blanket statements. Most of the thread has been concerning the rumoured covenant sniper rifle and not the carbine. There is mention of one in the Xbox Magazine.

Yes in the new Xbox Magazine it talks a lot about the carbine but it also mentions an unconfirmed covenant sniper rifle as well.

This is my new favorite Hikaru quote. I mean, that's just retarded right there.
