Maybe what you want is a difficulty level that has a random enemy factor to it. That way you never know what foes you will be facing around the next corner. That way you don't always know which weapon to grab going into the next area. If you are killed by 15 elites and forced to start over from the checkpoint, you might face 7 hunters on your second attempt, or maybe 56 grunts.
