Subject: What can moderators do?

Delete = Locks Thread

Pin = Makes Sticky

Unlock = Unlocks Thread

Reveal = I don't know

Delete makes a thread vanish from existence.
Pin turns the thread into a sticky, so it always stays at the top of the forum list like belated icing on the proverbial forum cake.
Lock stops people from replying to a topic.
Reveal makes posts made by banned members of the forum visible for a short period. Like, if you want to laugh at them or something.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

Note, also, that "reveal" only makes posts by banned members visible to you, the person who hit the "reveal" button. The blacklisted users' posts are still hidden to others.

All was shattered, and all but memory lost, and one memory above all others, of him who brought the Shadow and the Breaking of the World. And him they named Dragon.

Dunno. It's shameful, though.

You know Jim, Recon, and Achilles put the snap, crackle, and pop into everything.

You know, moderators have the "delete" power, yet they never use it. For instance, there was a thread in here advertising for a group earlier, and (i assume) someone moved it to the Classifieds. All that does is give the person more exposure, which was all they wanted in the first place. I don't see the problem in just deleting that, and PM-ing them about it.

Need help finding skulls, make sure to go here.

Like the mods have been saying, once a post is made, it is the community's. So, unless there is something really bad in the post, like a link to -blam!- or something, then the thread will either be locked or moved. Also, if a thread is deleted, there is no longer any proof that something happened, and some members could abuse that fact.

Moderators are not permitted to delete posts for the most part - deleting posts is not a helpful tool in almost every situation.

Well, then can't you just "hide" it somehow, leaving it in on the server, but not visible to the public eye?

It just seems like moving such a thread gives the person exactly what they wanted in the first place, and if something gets locked, it still has to sink to the bottom of the proverbial post pool. I can see the problem in just simply "deleting" posts, but "hiding" would do almost the same thing, without the negative repercussions, would it not?

Sometimes I wish the delete feature was used a little more often. When spam topics just block up a forum, I just want to see the topics invisible just so I can see the interesting topics.

another things is the edit post button. Instead of just locking a topic a mod should sometimes just edit their post with a moderators warning. Not a ban. But just a warning stating that this is spam or something if it isn't worth getting banned over.

Yes, but then some would argue that this is violating the member's rights. That's worse than "delete.." Just playing devil's advocate, here.

You do realize that you just put your mom on the line?

More on topic, whatever pleases them. I do find it odd that theyre just locking threads at times, like someone already pointed out, instead of saving some space by deleting them. People are supposed to knwo the rules so keeping them as a way of saying "dont do this" is pointless.

Another thing. Did they get rid of the yellow symbol next to topics that achronos has been posting in? It still hasnt shown up and its been a good 20 minutes now.

I don't think you are playing devil's advocate -- I think you hit the nail right on the head.

I can see the merit behind editing another user's post to remove inappropriate links or to make non-substantive edits, but editing and replacing another user's substantive written content is a whole different ballgame, no matter how bad it is.
