I understand anonymity. I do see spammers, but everyone over-exaggerates their influence. I just want to know why you fight so hard to prevent change of anything. "Just leave it, it is fine". Where will that get us? No where. You are acting as if the majority of people here only spam, or at least a great number. There are probably no more than a couple hundred compared to the 500,000+ members. Most of which reside in off-topic sections with alot more activity.
"Just leave it, it is fine." That won't get us anywhere. However, spamsville is somewhere. That's somewhere I don't want to go. I've said it before. It only takes a handful of people to ruin a good thing for the entire community.
The Gallery sees virtually no activity, so a spammer there would receive no props for his work, since no one would really see it except a minority of the community. From what I see about how moderators handle spammers, they probably get rid of 10 or 20 a day. But why must we let them win? Isn't their goal to destroy our community? Who gives a damn about what spammers do and don't do? If they come, get rid of them, that is how you handle them. Don't give them another thought. Don't let them ruin everything, including possibilities to change and make the community more than it already is.
The gallery sees no activity because that's the way it was designed. Once opened up, it would see tons of public attention and would turn into spam and pissing contests.
If you can't give me another reason NOT to do this other than spammers, then I see no point in arguing that any further. There are always spammers, so avoiding them is stupid.
Avoiding them is stupid? Is that supposed to justify doing more things despite the fact that it can and will get tons of spam?
Let the Web team, site admins, or whoever would decide to open up The Gallery weigh the pros and cons of opening it or leaving it closed.
