If XBOX 2 comes late2005/early 2006, that means we will have just over a year of playtime with it before we have to buy the next gen consoles. That means probably no more multiplayer on XBOX LIVE, and some people who have to trade in their XBOX 1 for 2 will be screwed as well, because they can't ever play it agian.

The great thing about HALO is three years later people STILL love to play the game and its not even LIVE.

Without backwards compatability, MS is cutting short our time with perhaps the greatest game ever(For XBOXers)

If xbox 2 comes out, then why wouldn't you be able to play Halo 2 on it? It would be like play PS1 games on the PS2! Only the graphics on Halo 2 would probably be better on the Xbox 2.0 or whatver they call it!

It wont piss people off, it will only make them more happy!

And Xbox live is just not going to poop all over the best online game ever! Xbox 1 or 2, Halo will still be playable! And will probably be played for decades! And when people finally stop playing it! Bungie is going to relase a newer game!

read my post again. MS stated that XBOX 2 will probably NOT HAVE BACKWARDS COMPATABILITY WITH XBOX 1. You will not be able to play ANY XBOX 1 game on XBOX 2.

The only way to keep playing is to keep your first gen XBOX, but then that means LIVE players will probably be screwed

Yea, I agree, Halo 2 will be able to be played on an Xbox 2. I don't know about the graphics being better, but hopefully!

That is total BS! As I said, MS is not going to poop on themselves and piss of the biggest badass fans ever! HALO 2 will be playable on Xbox 2, trust me! If not then I have one word for ya!

It doesn't matter if its not playable on XBOX 2, we can still play it on XBOX and I am sure the will still have XBOX live running when XBOX 2 is released.

The hardware of the Xbox 2 will be incompatible with the original. The only way to do it is to emmulate Xbox games on the Xbox. What do you know MS bought the company who makes "Virtually PC" (lets you run windows on a Mac). MS has made moves to make it work we will just have to wait and see what happens.

This statement by MS could be a mistake. Awhile back, Ballmer, announced to the press that the Xbox 2.0 was coming by Christmas 2004, and that the games Halo 2 and Halo 3 were going to be for it. Now, we know that the Xbox 2.0 is not due until late 2005/6, and not even Bungie knew of a Halo 3. Hell, even Ballmer later admitted he was wrong about there being a Halo3. So, just relax, the future isnt written yet.

I seriously doubt the release of Xbox Next within the next couple years.

Me: "OMFG, Dude... wtf!"
AbolitionofMan: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to betray you."
Me: "That's the 4th time in this game alone!"
Chris: "Third, besides he had the flag I was trying to stop him, how was I supposed to know you were there."
Me: "I said, 'I got the Flag, don't shoot.'"
Chris: "Well those Wraith shots take a while to reach you."
Me: "You were right next to me, I had killed him and a minute passed before you decided to shoot."
Chris: "Hahahahaha, yeah... that was great."

If for some reason Xbox does not make backwards compadablity.... then they are really screwing themselves. One reason why PS2 is popualr is cause you can play all your old PS games on it. If Xbox 2.0 doesn't have this... it will REALLY hurt them and thier sales and the stockholders for MS will be tired of taking profit losses in Xbox, (since they have to take loses before they make profits), and so Xbox is sunk.... this is NOT a smart buisness move....

This has been disscused so many times before, but how many people actually play PS1 games on there PS2?

None.

Why would you when theres loads of newer games with significantly better graphics out?

The thing with backwards compatibility is that some of nvidias intelectual property is in the nvidia chip, and if xbox 2 does backwards compatibility microsoft has to pay nvidia to use it a nvidia just has to do .... nothing.

I think xbox 2 will come out in 2006, and most likely a halo 3 because that would sell the system itself.

WHO CARES?

If you like Halo and Halo2 (which most of you here do), then just play it on Xbox - as long as you have your Xbox who is going to force you to buy Xbox2? Even if it is better??? If you like it, then get it. If you don't, then don't. You want to play Halo and Halo2, play it. Thats as simple as it gets.

Bottom line - Halo2 will amount so much glory, even with Xbox2 out, no one will be able to surpass or match it - except Bungie itself. I think that rings clearly to everyone.

This is true, but how many ground-breaking games were made for the PS2? In my opinion, none. Halo 2 will be THE ground-breaker of ground-breaking games.

Ok keep this in mind X box is basicly a computer you hook up to a TV i mean it was made by microsoft and any windows XP can run windows 98 files or widows mellenium why won't the new X box be able to run old X box games answer is it will unless they switch away from using discs like nintendo does when ever they make a new console.

i play Chrono Cross from the old PS1 on my PS2. and actually, most DDR games currently out are on the PS1. only DDRMAX 2 (and soon DDR Extreme) is on the PS2.

is the next xbox isn't backwards compatible, then microsoft could potentially screw themselves over in the Video Game department. if they made that move, even the current GC could probably very easliy over take the Xbox 2 in sales. if the next xbox is backwards comptaible, i would gladly trade in my cuurent Xbox AND PS2 for money on the xbox 2.

Whats the big deal!?! Would you be happier if Halo 2 was on the Xbox 2? Would you wait anouther year or more? Lets just calm down and see whats going to happen. I am sure that MS will make the Xbox 2 backwards comptaible. That way they can continue to sell the old games instead of taking a loss on them.

i doubt xbox2 will be released until '08 or so. I think developers just want to make the games for the current system even better.

Besides...I recently read some where that Xbox 2 might be able to play PC games. I'm not talking about PC games made for the Xbox, I 'm talking about actual PC games. If they are thinking about that...then I am sure that Xbox 2 will be able to play Xbox 1 games. I think I read this at TeamXbox.com or TheNextBox.com.

1st off who said we need to buy Xbox 2? 2nd off we should still have xbox live just a newer version and last MS is not cutting short anything, if people havent beat the game yet beat then move on.
and yes Halo is still the best game ever made!
