I think the stock Xbox Next will not be backwards compatible. Microsoft has supposedly pitched the 'Xbox Next PC' idea to focus groups for testing. It will be a PC running Windows (XP or Longhorn) that will hook up to a TV (meant for HDTV, not sure about normal TV's). It is supposed to be able to run Xbox Next games as well as PC games and possibly even Xbox games. Currently they're testing it with a $599 price tag, which is pretty cheap for a PC, but pretty pricey for a console, if it even sees the light of day.

if we are all concerned here about xbox LIVE changing into something else when xb2 comes out, i really seriously doubt that! i am sure we will all be able to play halo2 and many other games on xbox LIVE when xbox2 makes its debut. maybe they'll have LIVE2 or something, who knows- they're not going to just cut-off LIVE, maybe just modify it for xb or xb2 games. most are going to want to play halo2, so if xb2 isnt backwards compatable, yes, they hurt themselves, no matter what hot games are coming out for xb2.
and hey, there's always xboxconnect, too.

Xbox live wont go down becaue the Xbox next comes out. Xbox live is sustained because of people paying to play. Xbox Next will probably use the same servers, and if you pay the money, you will probably be able to use your xbox and xbox next on it. so basically, the two systems will use the same servers, and there will probably be one fee for using both.

Someone else made a good point. the Xbox next will be running on an ATI card, and the current xbox uses a NVIDIA card. so if microsoft wanted backwards compatability they would have to pay nvidia for doing pretty much nothing. Microsoft can afford it though. I really think microsoft would be selling itself short if it did not take up on this. they are putting a lot of effort into halo 2, and i'm sure they arent shooting for a one year window of playing.

hopefully we will b able to play xbox1 games on xbox2 but i am 100% sure that it will not increase the graphics they will just stay the same. the only thing that might change is how fast it actually loads, thats if they put in a faster video drive( the xbox1 only had around 750 mega hurtz or watever u call it) i find it hard to believe that the xbox only had that much mega hurtz in it due to the fact the games dont take that long to load!

My thoughts are that ALL xbox games will be playable on xbox 2 and that the xbox live service will run along onto xbox 2 as well so maby you can switch your account to xbox 2 or have it on xbox and xbox 2 and that people that are playing xbox live on xbox will be able to verse people that are playing xbox live on xbox 2 except for the fact u wouldnt be able to play games that come out on xbox 2 on xbox obviously. Oh yeh and the graphics will be the same for halo 2 on xbox as well as xbox 2.
