After being an XBox owner for nearly 2 years, I finally hooked it up to the network and am using a free 2-month trial. I played some XBL at a friends and realized that I have been missing out on a lot of fun. I vowed never to get into the online gaming because I'm the type to get easily addicted to these types of things. Hopefully I can pace myself :).
I really have been living in a cave though. I've really only played campaign and a little bit of split-screen multiplayer. I've managed to beat both games on legendary all the way though, but nothing compares to the level of difficulty or fun-factor to playing online.
I guess I have a few questions regarding Halo 2 online and XBL in general:
1. Can anyone point me to a good faq on Halo 2 (specifically online play)? Maps, strategies, etc...
2. Where can I find a reasonable priced headset for the original XBox?
3. I've been playing some of the team slayer but I keep running into 3 or 4 friends or clanmates against me and 3 other random strangers. Should I hold off of team ladder play until I find some people to play with in a party?
4. I have been reading these forums and hearing things about BXB, BXR, super-jumps, etc. Are these legal parts of the game which should be taken advantage of and where can I get more information about them if so?
5. Has anyone else had problems linking your gamertag with your MSN ID? Does it have anything to do with the free-trial?
Thanks for all your help in advance.1. To learn good strategies, you really can't learn from a website. You really just have to play it, see what others do, and if it seems to work, then try to emulate their strategies and moves. And don't be afraid to try stuff in a game. I have won a number of games when trying some crazy things on Lockout. If you see someone do something, then go into a custom game with just you and try it yourself.
2. Just go to a Gamestop or some other gamestore.
3. Until you are used to playing online and against that caliber of player as opposed to the campaign ai, you're better off sticking to FFA. Once you get used to online, go into team games. You don't need to go in with a party, I often don't, but if you do, you are more likely to win, as you will know your allies strategies, strengths, and weaknesses, and you will play better with people you know. If you go in without a party, it all depends on who you get matched with. Some people play to win, some just to mess around. And pray you don't get matched with a de-ranker.
4. Button glitches such as BXB, BXR, RRX, and others, along with superjumps (aka superbouncing) are against the rules, and people will leave feedback for you cheating if you do it. However, Bungie has no way of detecting such cheating unless they are in a game with you.
5. I had no problem, but I did it through the XBox 360 dashboard, but you said you had an original XBox, right? I don't think there should be a problem, but I have never done it.
And just a tip: know the maps. Be able to run to any weapon spawn, get to anywhere on the map, and basically do everything with your eyes closed. If you have to be facing the direction you are walking to know you are not about to fall off, you won't do well. Learn the maps. Play well. Good luck.
