I noticed (hard not to) in Halo, that the Sniper Rifle was about the loudest gun in the game. I think in Halo 2 it should be about the quietest. Especially since the game will have a little more stealth to it. It just makes sense. A SR is supposed to be a silent weapon any way.

Me: "OMFG, Dude... wtf!"
AbolitionofMan: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to betray you."
Me: "That's the 4th time in this game alone!"
Chris: "Third, besides he had the flag I was trying to stop him, how was I supposed to know you were there."
Me: "I said, 'I got the Flag, don't shoot.'"
Chris: "Well those Wraith shots take a while to reach you."
Me: "You were right next to me, I had killed him and a minute passed before you decided to shoot."
Chris: "Hahahahaha, yeah... that was great."

I'm a hardcore sniper and I say NO WAY! Why? Cause of the of the power. It's firing 14.5mm rounds.... one of the most powerful and widely used sniper rifles in the world only fires .50 cal, (or 12.7mm). And these are loud as hell. I know... I've fired them. The point of these high powered rifle is they are anti-matieral. Designed to defeat thick armor, contrete, and detonate explosives from a far. If you elimate the sound... it just looks cheesy with the streak from the superheated round caused by it passing through the air at huge high speed, velocity and heat. So you would have to get rid of that. Now if you did that... the SR would become the Pistol.... a highly overpowered weapon. The sound and the streak MUST stay for it to be good and realistic. Not to mention balanced...

I agree. It would be just stupid if they took away the sound, or streak. It would become vastily unbalanced.

Would it be okay if there was a different SR to use in the game? One that isnt as powerful, but has a silencer and flash muzzle on it. I know this sounds like something that wouldnt happen considering that each side(human, covie) have one firearm per category. But what if there were variants within each weapons category, like two types of pistols and two types of shotguns. Each weapon would have its own weaknesses, so there wouldnt be an ultimate weapon that everyone would gun for in MP.

I hope not, I loved that Halo had a limited amt. of balanced weapons. I don't want it to go James Bond/Tom Clancey, where you have a menu to toggle the weapons... One SR is enough, It was cheap as hell in Halo why make it cheaper?

I'm fine with it by the way :)

The point of the noise is so that it is balanced.
It helps alert other players as to where the sniper is so they can have a chance in fighting back.

Ever heard the sniper rifle at 100 meters in the game when you are in completely different rooms and on different Xboxes? No, you probably have not. The gun is rather quiet at major distances. The sound disipates very easilly and at long range, the enemy never knew what hit 'em. So keep the gun as is. No need to change it. As for two weapons in each category. Maybe not two, but each category sounds nice. *grins*

Battle Rifle = Battle Rifle Category
MA5B = Assault Rifle Category
SRS99C S2 AM = Sniper Category
M90 = Shotgun Category
M6D = Pistol Category
Rumored Magnum = Magnum(pistol*sigh*) Category
M19 SSM = Rocket Category
SMG = Sub Machine Gun Category

Just thought I'd point that out. *grins*

I'll be on my own side.

ahh who cares,the Sniper Rifle is awesome how it is.and to anyone who says that it sucks and is a noob weapon,you probably just dont know how to use it correctly.sniping is a refined skill that not everyone has.

Yeah the SR is fine as is, and if there was a SR version, it would still be pretty powerfull, even if using Sub-sonic rounds. Just give it a new skin, new colors, and leave it at that.

Yeah sniper rifle is perfect the way it is. Maybe add a 20x mag and we're all set. No need for a silencer. Actually we'll probably need a 20x because of the levels being alot bigger.

Please, "newb" my buttocks. The sniper rifle is pathetically simple to use in Halo, requiring no skill. Claiming to be a sniper in Halo is an embarassment and I refuse to make that claim despite my remarkable skill.

Give me a game where a sniper rifle is difficult to use, where it requires skill and finesse. Hopefully Halo2 will give that to me.

I think the Sniper is a perfect weopon. It just needs a better scope.

Counter Strike you need skill for a sniper. I'll tell you why, because if I get one look at a sniper, I'll fire a 3 round burst into their head! There are very talented people in that game with the sniper. They can zoom in on a target in almost no time and fire a bullet into someones head with a Schmidt! Now that's talent. Halo needs skill for a sniper as well. Sure it's easy to use and all, but you have to keep in mind that snipers are easily eliminated at close range (I got that covered) and by the pistol. Also, if you had no skill with a sniper, you'd be missing the target completely, so I'm sure every weapon in the game needs skill. It all depends on what you're good at.

who ever said a sr is supposed to be a quiet weapon has his facts wrong. it's supposed to be a powerful gun. have you ever hit three grust whith one bulet. you can't do that whith any other gun. fine as is. you could get rid of the cloud line though. wait that helps ballence it nevermind. fine as is

Just for you people who think for some odd reason a sniper needs no skill (I don't like to use them, I just think people have a lot of skill when they can kill 2 peeps in one shot and get multi, triple kills [or more] with it), Halo 2 will make snipering harder (or atleast in my opinion) over looking screenshots, I've noticed a lot more objects to hide behind, unlike the barron plains of Blood Gulch. Now that it's online, lag will have an effect, because one small little bit of lag could ruin a snipers shot. Now that Halo 2 has more vehicles, it will also be harder to kill people with it. I'm positive, however, that snipers will find away around this to their greatness. I will be on the field looking for my prey!

I can instantly snap in and fire with my sniper rifle as good as the best of them but it gives me no satisfaction. There are too many people who can do exactly what I can do.

I've played in games where sniping is very different. Take Wolfenstein for example. If you move at more then a slow walking pace you lower your scope. Your reticle bobs and circles around where you'd like to aim and the longer you remain still the more stable it becomes. I'd even add a "hold breath" function with the left trigger so that you can increase the stability for short periods.

That's my Halo2 sniper rifle. Now your sniper skills include not just planting your reticle on the right spot, it's a multivaried skill, unique to its own that many people won't have patience for but those that do master it can be prideful for they truly are a breed of their own.

I am thinking that the covie sniper will probably be silent. Besides from far enough away the sniper is silent.

Allow me to disagree, then agree. The sniper does take a degree of skill, as any n00b can squeze of 4 shots and probably kill their target. But if that person is facing a skilled sniper, then they would be dead as that sniper would be moving and still get a head shot because he has more skill. Which leads me to my next point...

I agree with you about the sniper in Halo 2 being more diffucult to use. No one, not even a Spartan could look threw a scope while running full speed and not trip. I think it should move around if you are moving, and only give you close to 100% accuracy if you are crouching, or hopefully if they include it, laying down in a prone position. This would give much more satisfaction when you got kills.

By the same token Madsniper, using a rocket launcher on an unsuspecting target takes skill. You "could" miss. The perception of "Degrees" of skill vary wildly.

In my group every single one of us is a crack shot and getting a headshot on anyone else is child's play, we often implement no sniping on the larger maps so that we can actually close to do battle.
