I would also be interested in this. I ordered a copy of HCE for my laptop but my laptop runs Vista. I was wondering about compatability issues.

My desktop PC is XP but doesn't have the needed hardware.

Are the exceptions on custom maps? Sometimes there is a bug in the map that causes exception errors when the game does something that it doesn't understand.

Its hard to tell when someone says "Halo CE" whether they are talking about Halo Combat Evolved or Halo Custom Edition.

yay I got it to work some how
before the game wouldent even start up
halo CE should work for your laptop just make sure that you get the hot-fix before you play or put anymaps on the game
also right click halo ce the first time you run it and click run as administrator or it wont get the updates

Thanks for the tip. I meant Halo Combat Evolved when I say HCE, is there a big difference?

No image tags? Bleh!

Massive difference.

Halo: Combat Evolved is commonly referred to as Halo PC or HPC, never as Halo CE or HCE, which refers to Halo Custom Edition instead.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time. I know who you are. You are destiny.

Works fine for me, when I had it. And I run on Vista Business.

Thanks, I have a 360 so I wasn't really interested in Halo 2 Vista. Besdes, I knew my PC wouldn't be able to handle it due to my graphics card. But, I haven't played the original Halo (I know, GASP!!) and I wanted to try it out on my PC.

Is it possible to custom map on Halo PC or would I need the Custom Edition?

You would need to download Halo Custom Edition. But it's (relatively) small and free. You might get UXB'd with a bunch of useful links about it, too.

It's official; UXB is now a verb.

Useful information. Thanks to all.

My copy of Halo PC arrived today and runs clean but a little laggy. I figured it would, my graphics card is barely up to it. Doesn't look like I'll be doing any online, not that I planned on a lot of it anyway (I have a 360 w/H2). I just wanted HPC because I've never played the first Halo and I found a new copy for cheap.

I plan on upgrading my desktop to be able to run HPC so that I don't have the graphics issues.

ETA: Found Halo CE on Downloads.com. Once again, thanks for the info.

Halo CE forever!

There are many singleplayer maps for HCE if you are not up to playing HaloPC or HCE online. Not all of them are good though. Most of custom maps are found in halomaps.org.

Found Halomaps.org and have downloaded several maps already. Good stuff.

I played The Flood and was impressed although my lacking graphics cards made it a little laggy but still playable. A ton of targets to shoot at, a nice challenge.

The map Mario with it's "no-mans-land" layout is a nice map. I wish I could get a big multi-player going but I think it would be a pain considering my aforementioned graphics card.

Actually, it was; I was the first one who used the term "UXB'd," but now others are starting to use it as well. :)
