Subject: I'm a n00b with questions

Finally playing Halo Reach!

Okay, I'm fairly new to this forum. I've perused it a couple of times reading and learning. I have a question though and figured I'd better ask it otherwise I won't find an answer.

What happened to the fun in games? Alright, let me back up a bit. To start with all the Xbox Live Halo 2 games I have played are nothing but fragfests for guys with mad skillz who sign up under new accounts and trounce us n00bs. Okay, you like to win. Yippee. When I played some team games on Halo PC, people were nicer. They didn't just want to whip your butt. They offered to help, to teach, to let you become better. That way when you played team games, you felt like a team. You were just as important as anyone else on the team even if you didn't have mad sniper skillz.

Why the heck is Xbox Live not like that? I go in a team game, somebody on my own team offs me to get grenades and ammo. WTF?

So, are there any guys or gals interested an a real game involving teamwork? Planning? Strategy? Fun? I just want to play some good fun games. Like "tag", the game neighborhood kids and I would play when we were young. Fun games.

Xbox Live Gamertag "ResilientMonkey"

To sum it up, where can I find people above the age of 21 who are interested in fun, strategic team games?

totally agree with you mate halo2 online has turned into an idiotfest and if they are not betraying you or just beens jerks they are cheating you lets just hope that halo3 does not go down the same road

Surrender? I've never heard of such. Defeat? Not a possibility! Why...why I will fight and fight and fight, until I am victorious, or I am dead? Because that is who I am, and that is why I fight; everyone will see that, when I am proclaimed greatest among men.

The Flood AdviceCenter- Where you can talk about stuff people usually want to, but can't, in The Flood.

Well, not everyone is like that. I've played TS games where we work together and make an awesome team, and others, no one says a word the entire match. On XBL, people have headsets, so its easier for noobs to annoy you. I've never really had a problem with multi-profile guys, but I'm a pretty decent player.

Also, it's just the nature of PC gaming. Most noobs have no clue of what "2 Ghz min. req., 1.4 GB RAM" means, and don't have the attention span to install the game. Also, PC games have servers with admins and moderators, who can kick and ban morons as needed. Heck, in BF 2142, you can vote to kick players. So, with the lack of noobs on PCs, the more intelligent people can get together and work as a team. However, that doesn't mean they all have "m4d sk1llz". I can recall quite a few times on BF 2142 where someone can't even fly a dropship out of the titan, or the pilot just bails out and usually means you die before you can take the cockpit.

And, for the record, I'm not yet 21, but I enjoy a good game, but most of my friends don't play Halo 2 anymore, so I'll just wait for Halo 3.

I could not agree with you more, Since the ranks have been reset I seem to come across levels sixes that end up kickin the crap out of me and bringing me from level 14 to 7. What is the hole point in reseting the ranks the whole things was fine before but now halo live seems to have just fallen apart and its no where near as good as it used to be. I feel sorry for people who are just starting out, they must fined it so hard and it probably puts them of coming back to play it again. MESSAGE TO BUNGIE DON'T RESET THE RANKS YOU HAVE COMPLETELY MESSED UP LIVE I CAN NOT TELL YOU HOW ANNOYING IT IS.

I find it more fun to play later at night, usually it is an older crowd, and not as much betraying, singing, yelling etc. To me those things ruined the game play with me. In H3 the instant mute option will rule. When I first started playing online nobody would quit a game, now half the team is gone in 2 minutes. Forget it if your playing skirmish, your about done if one person quits.

i know what ur sayin and it happens 2 me all the time im playing in matchmaking usualy in a team game and some1 takes thier shields down and i finish them off and they r yelling kill taker i hate u etc. whe really it dont matter cuz we on the same team and so our team gets the kill i mean GOD quit thinkin about ur self think about the team, i mean afterall u get more rank exp if ur team wins then if ur team loses but u pull25 kills

yeah i know. it especially blows when your whole team quits, and you either take a loss, or quit and still lose exp. i think there shouldn't be a leave game option at all. i understand if people have something come up and have to quit, but people who quit the game because they don't like the map or start losing just suck. i think that if bungie blocked a quitter from joining a new game until the one they had just quit was finished, less people would quit. but that's just me

Some people just take the ranks WAY too seriously. They think they are going to recieve some sort of incentive or reward for being a certain level on such and such of game type. People want to have the title as "Best Halo Player"....to me, I say "Big deal, who cares?" Sometimes I have fantastic games with a high volume of kills and a small number of deaths. Other times I have horrible games where the reverse is the truth. Do I care? No way. I never get frustrated when I play the game. If my entire team quits, I keep playing. I know I am probably destined to lose but I enjoy the challenge of trying to stay aiive and achieve a certain amount of kills before the end of the game. Why people cheat and mod is beyond me. I know hot to superbounce and I know the weapon glitches but I don't have time to use them in a real game. I've been slowly playing strictly custom games as it recreates the system link fun you can have at your house with 4 xboxes and 15 friends. If your rank determines how much fun you're having while playing then you need to stop playing. I'll be sending you a friend request so maybe we can team up and play some custom games some day.

RustyTrainLover here. I'm a newbie too. I guess that's called a "n00b", never heard of it like that. Anyway, I tend to play Team Snipers. Unfortunally my headset is not working, long story, check out the 45 page post on xbox.com for details. So that puts me at a disadvantage. But where is the "Team" aspect of it. Basically it seems like every player is for themselves running around like crazy. There is no "cover" to speak of. I might get a good hiding spot only to be whacked on the head from behind cause nobody has my back side. I played one game in the Transit map where the other team was just that, an organized Team unit. And they kicked my colors tail end something like 50 to 15. Not because my color was bad, but because their Team was organized. They had themselves holed up in the parking deck with all bases covered and it worked great, for them at least.
Also, what skills do the good shooters have that I don't have. Do they walk around at 10x zoom on all the time cause it seems like the instant I see a guy at 100 yards off he's snipeing me. Pretty frustrating to say the least. So I would be interested in hearing from folks that have kills in the 15+ range per game to find out just how they do it, specifically Team Sniper since that's what I play.
I'm new to Xbox Live, basically came on board when the ranks were being reworked. So I can't comment on how it used to be. But I'm just hoping that once I get my headset functional that maybe it will be more of a "Team" game instead of every man/woman for him/herself.
If you want to add me as a friend, I'm RustyTrainLover.
PS, I'm 38.

I'm sorry to inform you, but little was different prior to the rank reset. That being said, the people online can be real dicks, and the quiting of games is out of control. I play a lot of Big Team Battle and no more than 5 minutes pass and the match is over because everyone quits. I love even more that you get a game type such as coagulation CTF and someone quits! Why would you quit that gametype in the first 5 seconds of the match? What exactly are you playing BTB if you're going to quit every time a large map comes up?

Anyway, jut annoying. I feel for you beginners I really do, but I'm sure Halo3 will fix many of these issues you have; such as 4 player co-op and the mute functions online. Plus the party up system could help you link up with people you enjoyed playing against.

I just started back up about 2 or 3 weeks ago and was angered to see that BTB wasn't ranked anymore. I decided to start playing Team Slayer and noticed that my skill hadn't faded terribly, so I was doing pretty good (not because I wanted to just dominate, but because I wanted to get higher in level since my levels reset). I also noticed that no one ever talks when I play Team Slayer. Everything is silent unless I'm playing with 2 or 3 people who know eachother. I agree with you, in most games, teamwork isn't there. I need to get a new Halo 2 CD since mine is completely scratched, but send me a friend request, I like custom games much more than MM.

I completely agree with you, my friend plays on my gamertag sometimes and before I can stop him he just leaves, it's ridiculous. Never leave, especially not if you're 4 on 4. You have to expect to have terrible games, even the best players do.

I'm only 17, but I'm much more mature than a lot of 21 year olds and would love to play with you mate. gamertag - xX MacDaddyP Xx. Please add me as I love custom games but rarely play them.

Same deal man. I try to play to train and get better, work on strats, things like that. I think just a lot of gaming culture today is going down the road of immaturity. If I'm practicing with weps I'm not very good at, even in Team Training, everyone's like "omg lol nooob n***er! teabag teabag teabag, blablabla" that's why I randomly switch over to GoW. The people online seem to be a bit more mature on that game.

But I'm on H2 a decent amount, especially on the weekends. Hit me up sometime

Hey Rusty-I play team Snipers a lot and I'm not a high level but I'm usually one of the top two players in the game each time. For me, I hardly ever use 10x zoom when sniping unless the enemy is at a really really long distance. I keep moving at all times and never run out into the wide open. Typically I also die the least of anybody. Heres a good example of my sniping ability-http://www.bungie.net/Stats/GameStatsHalo2.aspx?gamei d=745661321&player=InkAddicted

It's very important when playing snipers to keep your zoom off so you can see all around you, and only zoom in when you see an enemy (or not at all, if you are good with no-scope shots). I love playing snipers more than anything. I was a dreadfully horrid sniper a month ago but I've played pretty much nothing but snipers and paired up with one of the best snipers I've ever played with and he helped me learn a lot of new skills. One things for sure, if you stop having fun and start to get frustrated-you're going to lose....big time!

Well I can tell you that people wt those really low levels and are actually of that skill are probably little kids. They betray you to get the weapons and that sorta stuff. Thats just immature and once you level up it gets more competitive and more fun. If ur interested in teamwork and strategies play hardcore. I consider myself pretty good at this game and would be glad to play with ya and help your rank up. My GT is LBT Petrie like the user name.

Freedom of Speech does not equal "Freedom from Consequences when one speaks".

It is a right, and all rights have responsibilities associated with them. Ignore the responsibility, and you tend to lose the right.
Recon Number 54

It's a disadvantage when you don't use the communicator and talk with your teammates, but what gets me is when you're matched with a player who starts yelling at his team because nobody's saying anything. Well, the REASON nobody says anything anymore is because there's so much -blam!- going on these days that you make yourself a target by talking. I used to talk, until I learned it's not worth the effort. Games are more enjoyable -- even if you lose -- when you don't have others harrassing you. Only time I use the communicator in-game now is to apologize to someone if I betray him accidentally.

  • 08.08.2007 10:54 AM PDT

I don't really talk in MM and my team seems to do fine 80% of the time. Really the only time a team beats my team is if they are a clan or a group of people that know eachother and are used to making strategies and keeping in contact with eachother. Using strategy will almost always help you, but the people in MM most of the time aren't willing to listen. Send Me An F/r. Gamertag : Zariath

I have to admit this is what annoys me too, on Gears of War there are people who are like the people on Halo 2 but there is a much smaller number of them and I enjoy the game more. When I kill someone on Gears the person congratulates me on the kill and I do the same back when people get me. But on Halo 2 all I seem to find is people screaming down the mic "TAKE THAT -blam!-!!!" "YEAH, I GOT THAT LITTLE -blam!-!!!" what happend to nice people?

What is the best game type to not find these people? I read above that you shouldn't go into skirmish??
