You bumped a topic that was two minutes old? Odd.

To answer your question, probably... but I don't think Halo 2 Vista was designed for laptops, I don't understand high-end gaming on laptops. However, one thing... your video card is a bit lackluster, so you may not be able to run everything on high settings and most likely won't be able to handle any resolution over 1024x768... potentially 800x600.

I am wondering if it will work with that graphics card too because i might get a laptop with the GeForce 8400M GS.

Edit: go here: http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest and select halo 2. it will tell you if it will run.

No, your mid-high range laptop will not run a three-year-old console port. At all. You'll be lucky if you get to run Minesweeper at full screen with 2X AA and 4X AF.

hmm every thing is nice besides your video card. it won't run that well, but it'll run. you should head over to http://www.systemrequirementslabs.com, click Can you run it? and choose halo 2 from the drop down list. the website will analyze your hardware and will tell you if you can play it.

I'm going to warn you, it's not going to run extremely well on that 8400M GS. I'm going to blindly predict 30-40 FPS using 800x600 on medium, no AA or AF. (I say blindly because I haven't heard much about the 8400M GS, except that it's fairly slow.)

What I cant understand is why people call 30fps a bad frame rate. 30fps is what your 30 is running at. And people on tv look just as smooth movment as real life at 30fps.

30 FPS is like a slide-show on PC games.

I don't play a game unless it is at least 2000 fps, just kidding but 30fps seems great to me i guess because i don't have a ton of money to buy a gaming PC along with my new laptop. Half life 2 runs at 30 fps or lower on my old laptop and it looked fine i could barely notice it being jittery.

Here are some pics of games running on a HP dv2500t with the 8400m gs:

For what it's worth, I can run HALO 2 fluid on max settings at 1680x1050 on my laptop:

Inspiron E1705
Core 2 Duo T7200 2 GHz
2GB 667MHz RAM
nVidia 512MB Quadro 3500M (GeForce 7950 GTX)

You have the CPU/RAM, but your video card will choke quite a bit.

*cough* excuse me i'd like to make a comment... GeForce 8 series handles dx10 i think it can handle Halo 2 VISTA which runs at DX9.

To be fair though, that isnt one of the most aesthetically pleasing areas of the game. The best looking areas easily beat HPC. Not to mention the art in h2 is leagues better than the original halo IMO. One thing you can't argue is how much better the lighting is in h2 though.

Exactly. Halo PC looks so much more vibrant and colorful. Halo 2 Vista looks dull.

You're definatly wrong there, keep in mind he said it was an 8400, although it is DX10, it is still a low end card and would be easily toppled by many DX9 cards.

Hi,

While researching for a new laptop, I came aross this:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Comparison-of-Grafic-Cards.130.0 .html

This site lists and ranks all available GPUs for laptops on the market.

Just out of curiousity, I'm new to the laptop scene too 'n I just bought this, can you please tell me if it'll play Halo 2, at least decently?
It's a little weaker then what the poster has, I think,,,

Sony VAIO Notebook with Intel® Centrino® Duo Processor Technology
Vista Home Premium
Intel Intel® Core(TM)2 Duo Mobile
1.8 GHz (isn't it really 3.6 cuz of the duo core?, I'm a newb :))
2GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT <----GT instead of original poster's GS, and that site someone posted earleir puts the GT higher up then the GS, so it's a little better? Or no?
200HDD

Please tell me if I can look forward to Halo 2 on my laptop 'n achievements or not :)
I read the system requirements 'n it says 2.0GHz but it didn't say if it's Duo or not,,, So iuno if mine will work,,, Please! I can't run that thing that tests it because it hasn't come in the mail yet. Thank you!
