rocket launchers should stay because rockets are fun and can be easily countered.
i have met some pretty stupid people on line that obviously have no idea how to use the rocket lauincher. if ur in a close quarters combat with someone who has a launcher just run up to them and let them blow themselves up as well. almost every game i play there is no time to even grab the launcher because is concentrating on killing each other. and if u dont know how to counter the launchers. learn! i love the launchers but i rarely use them unless someone is being a cheap moron then i show them my wrath.

The ppl who host the game should be in total control of what weapons to allow in the game.
* Yes / No Frags
* Yes /No Rocket Launchers
* Yes/ No blah blah

so on

I will not counter rockets by being complacent. Instead I will be proactive and post on bungie forums with the hope that they are read by bungie employees.

In addition, running at people with the rockets only works on n00bs.

While i completely respect the effort to make sure the game's weapons are completely balanced i'm just not too sure about the rocket launcher being as effective as many people make it out to be. mid to long range it's easily escapable so long as you keep your feet on the ground and change your direction after they shoot, then jump the other way. Many people when fighting at close range with a rocket launcher get very antsy and make bad shots, especially when at melee range, and any plasma weapon can really destroy a RL's chance of winning a fight at that range as well. And at mid range of course the pistol should dominate the RL as well as just about every other weapon. I just pray that the battle rifle doesn't kill with the same profieciency assuming it's clip is extremely larger than the pistols, i seriously hope it's mid range damage is as low as the standard assault rifle from halo1.

Couple of things:

1. Don't bump. It's desperate, irritating, it breaks up the continuity of your discussion , and its insulting to other forumgoers' intelligence. If the MODS deem it a good topic that needs a bump, I'm sure they'll chime in. You insult other forumgoers by assuming they aren't interested or thorough enough to search less popular threads for a topic that interests them.

2. Timers suck. I agree with the sentiment that the prescence of a timer denotes someone who is a little too fixated on winning. It's a GAME. You don't need to take it that seriously. Play for FUN, not to mercilessly paste everyone you play. Where's the fun in that? By employing tactics like using timers, you effectively take away from the greatest strength that the game has: Balance. Bungie works extremely hard to provide a balanced game experience so that battles remain challenging and varied. I very much like the idea that powerup/weapon spawntimes could be made to shift every time they are picked up within 10-15 seconds of spawning. Good call.

3. Rockets are not as bad as many people seem to make out. Ammo is pretty limited, and judicious use of your grenades can be just about as effective as a rocket launcher. Either way, Bungie is making the rockets less powerful, and I assume the rest of the arsenal will be adjusted for an even greater degree of balance. After all, the needler is more powerful, and there's the issue of dual wielding to add a whole new depth to the arsenal, as well as the Covenant carbine and the brute weapon and their respective chances to counter the rocket launcher from a distance; not to mention other weapons that may or may not be added to the mix by the time the game goes gold, or (god forbid) the possibility that Xbox live may offer new weapons in time.

The pistol is what really worries me.

I'm afraid that it will either be the all-destroying powerhouse that it is in Halo, or the Battle Rifle will take its place and the more skilled matches will become the all-out snipefests that so many current halo matches turn into.

I agree completely about powerups, if overshields were removed it would even the playing field. I think the only way to solve everyone's problems is to simply give mutiplayer as many cusomizable options as possible. That way if some aspect of multiplayer was not liked it could be turned off, because no matter what, if you remove, or leave something permanently someone is going to be unhappy. I also agree on the point of the pistol, a pistol should never be the strongest and most dominant weapon in a FPS. The pistol really didn't have much weakness.
