I've never heard anything about proning. I think it would also slow the pace of the game too much because people would be hiding so much more.

It's a position in shooting called "prone position". It's when you lay on your stomach and fire your gun.

actually, i hope one can go prone. that would add a whole new dimension to gameplay. a benifit is that you're not a towering target while sniping (or shooting), but no mobility. i hope we can go prone in halo2.

Heck, I can't tell you how many time's i've wished to go prone. Coming up those tubes in Sidewinder for example, slowly crawling up and peaking over towards the plateaus on the other side... or... how many times have you been running across the plateau on Blood Gulch only to find yourself being shot at by a pistol, dropping down prone would give you a chance for your comrades to rescue you or for you to regenerate your shields.

absolutely agree - you could hide behind the many hills in Blood Gulch, or play dead on the ground!!! or crawl up to an enemy foxhole, jump up, throw a nade into the hole, and run like hell.

I'd use the proning to great effect. You know those little methane packs on the backs of Grunts? I found just ducking behind them gives cover, so imagine getting all the way down behind a fallen Covie. That would be nice. It would also help for sneaking around. Really piss people off.

Going prone would be great. In Halo your always somewhat exposed while sniping, going prone and peeking the barrel of your gun from behind a rock would be great. Also it would be great for sneaking up on ppl.

Yes, it would be awesome. Me being the sniper I am, I would love this technique. Its perfectly balanced too.

Proning=immobility

Well since everyone seems to love it I'll be the devils advocate. I feel that proning would drastically slow the overall pace of Halo, which in my mind is what seperates it from many other console FPS's. If prone were added into the mix people would only go hide and snipe more than they do now if its even possible. This isn't Ghost Recon, the point in my mind at least is not to go hide and sit for the length of the game or until you run out of ammo. Also if prone were added in it would be nearly impossible to get a shot on a sniper unless you use the rocket launcher, so at least in my mind it would become a very bland hide and shoot game like all of the other FPS's out there. Just my opinion :) not trying to step on any toes or anything.

Rocket launcher? You have an array of vehicles, a shotgun, grenades, needlers, plasma pistols (pp and needler are both homing). What more could you ask for?

No no no what I was saying is that if a sniper is proned it would be nearly impossible to shhot them unless you were right on top of them or if u shot a rocket or nade from a far distance. I guess the needler could home in as well. But most of the weapons would be useless unless at extremely close range.

That is somewhat the point. He's supposed to keep your group pinned while his teammates maneuver. If that isn't his purpose he should take his kill, then seek out opporunity targets for a few moments, and then flee. Sniper's should never engage in prolonged combat.

A prone individual is very vulnerable to grenades. Additionally, if he's on the far end of the map is also likely to be isolated and alone. Get to him. Ghosts are very hard to snipe now that they have boost and Halo2 is supposed to be populated with more objects to use as cover should you want to take a less risky route.

Well while you are proned maybe instead of strafing, as you normally would while standing, you instead do a roll for several feet.

Well actually, I think the thing that seperates Halo is the realism. If you can do it in real life, you can do it in Halo... Thus the lack of rag-doll physics. And going prone would make it more realistic...

*grins* Speaking of doing what's realistic. I'm tired of finding that I can't get on top of an object because my ankles don't clear the object during a jump. Mantling objects would be pretty cool if it could be managed.

In theory that is what a sniper should do, but in reality (or in the game for this matter) EVERYONE will be sniping, so noone can even move without getting 7 bullets in the head, and then when the snipers finnaly do get a chance to get a view of the enemies spawn zone, they will just spawn camp, the game will become WAYYYYY too slow paced and wont be any fun, i want halo 2 to be face paced, so your jumping around while both teams clash with vehicles and weaponry, all the bullets and mayhem flying around, not 2 teams just proning at each end of the map trying to snipe each other...

IT would be almost idiotic to not include a prone stance.

Beefy, you're forgetting that the new multiplayer maps are up to five times the size. Perfect for a few snipers to move about hunting each other.

Imagine the Human city map if you can ascend into the buildings! Wow.
