I have created a way to hinder PM ads politely. I placed the request for no ads in my signature. The purpose for this thread is to ask if the advertisers on this site could kindly check mine and anyone else's signature before sending ads for groups, clans, etc...

If everyone who does not desire solicitations expresses this in their signature and advertisers politely start checking these then we just might have a viable solution to stopping undesired ads. Those who don't mind them can still receive them and those who do can politely say so. Granted, jerks will ignore it even if they read it, but for the most part the advertisers would know who to send to and who not to waste their time on.

If you think about it, those who do not desire ads are most-likely not going to read it, let alone join the group or clan it advertised. So this not only prevents the slight annoyance for receivers, but saves the advertisers time in targeting people who may be interested.

Regardless, thanks for reading.

I tried this for several months after I joined.
The text escalated from 'Please do not invite me to your group.' to something like 'DO NOT INVITE ME TO YOUR GROUP OR I WILL PERMANENTLY BLOCK YOU.' I still have 19 users on my blocked list; several of them are Septagon regulars. AND NO I'M NOT UNBLOCKING YOU.

Ideally for this to work you would just need to put "No solicitations" or "No ads" in your signature.

Well, maybe we can make people aware and perhaps add a new forum rule. That would help immensely if there was a new rule that solicitors must check signatures before sending ads. If a staff member happens to see these I would ask that you consider it.

Uh, that'd be a major source for community rage. I prefer my method. I just don't post anywhere but the Septagon and Underground.

You know, I like you're idea, but I don't think people will care, nor check to see if it is in there. I won't send you an invite though.

Or you could just... ignore the PM? Unless you're getting more than one every few days, I don't see the real problem. And if the same person does it twice, PM them back and tell them not to do it anymore.

I just don't get the problem with the ads. I don't like them, and I never look into them, but they don't really bother me.

Don't send me group invites.

I'm too lazy to have anything else here, sorry if you are now disappointed.

I get about one a day from someone in The Flood.

I bet some people will send you a group invite if they read that message just to piss you off. There's no way you can stop it unless you block everyone ahead of time.

Well, they don't upset me necessarily, but I could definitely do without them. I get a little bit excited when I have a PM and then I get let down when it's spam. I do get them very often. Usually one or two a day. I hate blocking people so I try to avoid it, but I'm afraid I have no alternative. We'll see how I fare with the signature.

I realize that. This is why I'm trying to be polite.

I don't do that. Stooping to their level fixes nothing. I do however reply to every one of them asking them politely to stop. Seems to work. I rarely get a second one from the same person.

lol, I was just kidding, but you have to take in the fact that some people could just care less. They might not check your sig, and if they do, half won't listen.

Ha ha, I got an invite from one group, replied that I wasn't interested only to get another invite to the group (different user, 99% same message) about two weeks later, and replied to him by quoting the first message. A couple days later, I got another invite from the same guy, with the same copied invite message.

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

Ninjas ban people for sending invites? I thought about asking how many group invites you guys get daily, but I guess it really doesn't matter. Though I am still a bit curious. Do you have an estimate?

Of course I will honor any such edict you pose in your sig. If you mention that you don't want invites, I will not send you one. But I still have two questions that are really simply point of view questions.

1) Is it really that big of a deal? Granted, I'm probably not as popular as some of you guys, especially the moderators, but I don't really receive an "over-abundance" of invites from anyone.

2) Do you guys think all invites are spam. I don't doubt that there are spammers out here on B.net. But I've even been accused of spamming, of which I take offense to. I always take a few minuets and hand-type my invites, but even then I only do so when I believe you have a solid interest in joining "X" group.

I don't mind group ads. It is one of the few ways people can advertise their groups. It is easy for me to turn people down or not respond.

July 15, 2008... The day the timer stood still.

I don't mind ads through PM. The only time it really made me mad was at the time of the Halo 3 beta Friends and Family thing. I got a message and I thought I was in!!! But it was an ad... =(

Not for invites . . . spamming the inbox with invites or anything else will get you banned. In other words, only contact ninjas when you have to and don't keep contacting them.
