I was playing an all rifles match on Ascension, 2 people left on each team making it 2 on 2 (This is in Team Slayer btw). The game went back and forth, they had one guy sniping who was popping heads like it was nobodies business. We got a streak going and pulled ahead by 4. It got down to 1 minute left and I said to my teammate "They got a sniper in the tower, let's wait it out, they can't beat us with this little amount of time left". We camped it out and survived, the reason I wanted to stay camped was because their sniper was up in the tower and I didn't want to run around and give the game away. After the game someone on the other team (I wont mention his gamertag) complained that I was being a bit<h the entire game. I explained my side to him, and he still disagreed, I wanna know how others feel about this scenario...

Scenario: 2 vs 2, the other team has a good sniper who's been keeping you pinned all game. With 1 minute left, and a 4 point lead, do you run out there knowing that they have a sniper, or do you stay back and let them come take the victory themselves?

Sorry if anyone thinks this is a waste of a post, but if you do, please don't respond.

There was a man from Allentown who fed his son to death.
He calmly watched him gorge himself until his final breath.
And there he stood, surprised and shocked above his tiny frame.
He said: "I bear no blame for this. I only share his name!"

If the other team EVER has an amazing sniper I keep my head down till I am positive he is looking the other way.

That's my point. I didn't want to chance getting sniped everytime I ran out and then losing the game because of it.

  • 08.07.2007 10:08 PM PDT

Sounds like you made the right choice to me. Why would he expect you to give the game away if you didn't have to? I would have done the same thing. If he wanted to win that bad he should have come after you and your teammate where you were hiding.

Theres no shame in being smarter than 90% of the people that play Halo 2 and play strategically instead of the spray and pray method

I'm just glad to see that he's just about the only person who thought that. I gave props to the guy sniping, cause he's the reason I decided to camp, but his teammate was being stupid.

Its like the typical game on Ivory Tower when the other team controls the hallway and you watch in amazement as your teammates run endlessly in and its a constant red X in the door openings... You just wanna beat your head against the wall... Y cant more people play smart?

  • 08.07.2007 10:22 PM PDT

Oh, and him sniper-camping the tower wasn't being a -blam!-?!

I have to agree completely with you on that one. I hate Ivory Tower so much now days since it really comes down to who spawns closer to, or who is better with the sniper, rockets, and sword.

And as for the original scenario on Ascension. I think you did the right thing, and I think everyone knows it... even the guy on the other team who was just looking for some way to trash talk you so he could feel better.

You did exactly what you should have done. Only retards would throw their victory away, only to please the opponents. Why be chivalrous knights, when you can be winning cowards? After all, winning isn't everything... IT'S THE ONLY THING!

That's a good post, and right on the money.

Hiding and waiting it out was a smart move.

Oh ivory tower, how i despise it for its hallway of death... Smart move on ascension, definitely the correct course of action. Thinking is key.

Here's your sign

lol i had same problem on lockout they had snipers, and brs, both of them we sat under the glass room, but they were too dumb to go behind us to bottom br, if they did that they could have won

  • 08.08.2007 5:39 AM PDT

kill it till it dies

yea i used to be on a team and i said that if we are winning and the game has a time limit try and not to die and just camp somewhere taht u can suprise them because then u can easily win the game so preety much just pull ahead and camp soemwhere

No problem with what you did but if you had have hidden and camped the whole entire game like some people do then I'd change my tone and I'd be saying something completely different...but hiding isn't so bad, especially with the situation you were in.

You did good smart play. I have played lots of games that were lost cause people would run out into the sniper sight when they should have just waited. I would play on your team any day.

Freedom of Speech does not equal "Freedom from Consequences when one speaks".

It is a right, and all rights have responsibilities associated with them. Ignore the responsibility, and you tend to lose the right.

Sometimes...strategy means sacrificing yourself to clear out a grouping of opponents so your teammates can go in and force them to spawn elsewhere, swtiching tables. On Ivory Tower I will frequently go into the situation you described and throw some well-placed grenades (usually have time for two, sometimes three before I die), and that's usually enough to break up the advantage and give my team a chance. Keeping your feet off the floor gives you a few more milliseconds.

  • 08.08.2007 8:16 AM PDT

Definitely a smart move what you did. One way to counter the sniper's advantage is to just not get in his sights altogether. Force the other team to play by your rules, not the other way round.

I'd say you did all right. You're strategy was good. If he was to whine about it, he could have changed his strategies too. No shame in your decision man.

I hide if there's one minute left and I'm ahead by one. It's there fault for not finding you.

On a simalar suject what are your thoughts on the turf tactics of parking the warthog behind the sheilds at the bunker? I have tried it in oneplayer games and its fine untilyour oponent gets a grenade on or near the warthog. Also if you arrange it right there is brilliant blace for a sniper next to the warthog turret.

I think that's a great idea if someone has the time to do it in the midst of the battle. Definitely watch out for the grenades, two frags does a warthog in quick.
