Either way, on topic, I imagine that it won't be too bad. The Halo 3 Beta forum was relatively harmless overall, so I don't imagine that the post-launch Halo 3 forum should be too bad with the new features we're getting. I'm sure that there will be a lot of "How do you download screenshots?"-type threads, though. C'est la vie.
I don't think that you can compare the Halo 3 Beta forum in this situation...

Halo 3 Beta -- 100,000 players, give or take a few thousand.
Halo 3 -- 8-10 million players, give or take a few million.

Remember that the Beta forum was pretty crazy... I think that we can expect worse for Halo 3.

How much worse? *shrugs* I dunno

I never posted in the beta forum. There were so many repeated, spammy threads it was kind of pointless. Let us just hope you are wrong (damn it that isn't too likely...)

Every Halo 3 Beta player x about 10,000.

Simplified; millions of repeat topics, tons of pointless spam, complaints, and other nonsense, and an eruption of flaming.

The moderators are going to have to get some new tools.

Maybe players will be too busy playing Halo 3 to post about it at Bungie.net. Furthermore, almost all of the traffic will head towards one forum.

Halo3Planet, the place for all things Halo 3..

Need help finding skulls, make sure to go here.

It's definately going to get really bad. The only thing we'll be able to do is try to PM new members to help them out, and alert the moderators to the really bad threads. Then again, I don't know if the moderators will be wanting our help, considering how many PM's they are likely to get. I don't know, but unless one of them says otherwise, I'll still PM them links to the really bad threads.

Millions of reapeat topics!?! there's only about 77,000 topics now, and the forums been open for months.

I think you guys are over playing this way too much. Sure, there will be an influx of new members, but there was one with the beta, and one with the announcement, and tons of others. Every time, we assimilate the new users and further Bungie's quest for world domination. It hasn't been a problem before, I can't see how the web team could be so horribly unprepared this time.

EDIT: unless Stosh is involved. Then we're screwed.

You (plural) obviously do not understand if the amount of active moderators will be the same during Halo3's launch (which is low) there won't be hope.
In all seriousness.

I am worried for Bungie.net's sake. September 25 and the months after that there will thousands of new members coming in. . Is Bungie.net prepared?

Along with what a lot of people said, the ninjas delt with it when Halo 2 came out. There might be more, but who is to say all of them will be trouble?

LOL nice dude.

Bring 'em on, I say! This is going to be fun, to say the least.

Hey Achronos/Web Team, any chance you'll bring a "Last Resort" Forum? Like Zanzibar for Halo 2's release....... I wasn't here for a multiplayer forum but I've heard stories and it sounds like a riot LOL

;-)

It was prepared when Halo 2 arrived, so it will definitely be ready for Halo 3.

...wow...that was a crazy time...I will feel really sorry for the mods on that day.

As regards to Members, the only thing I would suggest is to help the Mods out as much as you can. The usual things like PM'ing the mods and sending PM's to the OP's warning them about their threads.

For the Mods, they do what they were asked to do, moderate.

I wouldn't really worry about the 25th though. Most people will be playing Halo 3. Give it about a month after H3's release, the H3 forum will be swarmed with new fans of Halo Nation.

I'm pretty sure Bungie is prepared, they probably got the whole place booby trapped for spammers and flamers alike.

I seriously hope Achronos is going to split the H3 forum into several parts.
I also think we need at least 100 mods.

100 is pushing it. If anything 30 is the max we need. We already have a little over 20, although 3 are inactive.

Don't send me group invites.

I'm too lazy to have anything else here, sorry if you are now disappointed.

It's going to be utter hell. You will lose many great people and many new spammers will replace them. I might take a little vacation before and after September 25th.

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

It will be bad yes, but not so terrible that people will leave. Many blacklisted for spoilers with no warning, or just plain old spam and flames. From the looks of things, and of the current events, things will be hectic for a short week or two, but after that people will get the point. My recommendation, post with your head, not with the voices in you head. Follow the rules, don't reply do spam, and alert the mods of problems whenever possible. Those are the only things we can do, and those are the only things we should do. Post smart, but most of all, post safe. =)

Guys, lets try to welcome our new guests. If it gets too crazy, well.... Everyone get a good look at all the people posting right now. Even people in the Halo 3 forum. They will be your friends, your skilled Bnet user. We'll appreciate each other and be more helpful in the upcoming months.

There might actually be some cool new members too. =/

Baron brings up a really good point. People are going to be asking for help, and not everyone is going to start trouble.
