Subject: bungie.net gradations/The Septathlon

If the Bungie scale of newness were introduced to the community, how would you judge it? This is my idea:

Grizzled Ancients
Anyone pre- the old hotness (I suppose the old old hotness).

Old Skool
Anyone before 2003.

Middle School
Everyone who registered before the new hotness.

Newbies (obviously needs a new name)
Everyone registered since the new hotness.

This may seem pointless, but I also have another idea. During Bungie's pentathlon, we have a 7th Column Septathlon (much more logical), with various multiplayer games being played between selected teams of members of each group. What are your thoughts? We could also have someone in spectator mode running FRAPS.

I don't think there should be a scale, but a septathalon is good after halo 2 comes out and a few more online games come out.

Don't think on such a small sacle! We could rent out a really really big room and play with fruits and large breakable objects!

Of course, yoozel's idea of fun involves orange rinds, Persian vases, and pain.

Not to mention of possibly getting very very sticky...

I think using those ideas are pretty good, but It would also be good to have ranks based on numbers of posts cause someone may be a middle but hardly ever contribute to the community of post...

Not that I should be talking, as I only found out about this place two days ago

Yo Halo53, I'm real happy for you and I'ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best bungie.net profiles of all time. OF ALL TIME!

Than everyone will post whore and we don't want that. They used to have post counts but it encouraged spam so they are gone.

Maybe you could have a participation meter based on how other people in the community feel about you?

I know I'm being naive, but I hope for a relatively decent group of people to work with, even though I've barely seen twenty regular posters in this forum.

I haven't been active the last 2 days and won't be for the next week or 2... damn finals... but I am a regular poster and a "vet", if you will.

I see what you are saying and it could be a good idea but there are a few people who would ruin the ideas for all. If they don't like someone they would get others to rate them poorly, and get their friends to rate them great etc.

Okay, I concede, as much as I would like it for some way to make new people get a good gradation, in the long run it cannot work. It has to be by time since joining.

Which can be misleading in certain cases. My old user name had me as a member since last November. But with this name, you'd think that I jumped on the bandwagon with all the other newer members.

Unfortunatly, no system I've ever seen can deal with that. The only way you could work with a gradation system and people who change accounts like that is by having the bungie staff personnally give you a title...

Something for the SCC maybe?

Why don't we just treat each other like equals but fess up that people have been here longer than others?

"It's better to be dead and cool, than alive and uncool!"

I guess I would be old skool since I'm been here almost 2 years. I have always been active with my chapter, but have just recently started posting to the forums. I do like the idea of a septathlon once a year and having the teams determined by how long you have been a member and how active you are in the community.

It would only be for a Septathlon.

  • 06.02.2004 2:08 AM PDT

Spamming Bungie since 2004!
Those who want to live, let them fight, and those who do not want to fight in this world of eternal struggle do not deserve to live.
GT-I Final I (i's)
Plz uze prper inglish n ur poasts!11! it makez it eazeer 2 reed!

So, the ratings would only be for the Septathlon, right? It wouldn't appear under our user names when we post, right?

  • 06.02.2004 4:35 AM PDT

No, only for the Septathlon.

The thing is that if we made this a annual kind of thing, we'd have to change the dates every year, because he newb team would grow, but no other team would. You'd have to make the scale based on not one date, but on an amount of time.

  • 06.02.2004 9:47 AM PDT

We could change it each year.

So eventually everyone procedes to Old Skool? I think Grizzled Ancients should always stay the same, that way you know who was here, and maybe same thing with the Old Skool, so evetually everyone else is divided between Middle School and Newbies.

No such scale will happen.
