Subject: People and their continuous quitting

I agree that quitting takes a lot of fun out of the game. Some type of penalty for quitting might help, but there would still be people out there that would quit anyways. It happens in Halo 2 and will happen in Halo 3, hopefully not as much. The only thing you can really do to stop it from happening on your team is go in with a full party. Either that or just play customs. It is a growing problem now more than ever, I think it is because people don't care anymore. There is only about two months til Halo 3, nobody really cares about their rank or how they play cuz in a while they are going to be playing a different game.

I dont know why there should be limit of one account per xbox... I have two accounts and incase you dont know, if you really wish to quit, one account HAS to SIGN OUT before they can both quit... But yes I agree with what everyone is saying about punishment. I for one am glad about the whole RP thing in Halo 3. Also I hate it when people quit in unranked games... its just a waste of time. Oh and one last thing. Im an aussie and Im not sure if this happens to anyone else, but very rarely in MM, I will go into a blue screen, and when it comes back on, EVERYONE is gone and Im in the match by myself! Why is this? Is this because of my server?

When you go into bluescreen and come back to the game and everyone else is gone it means that you lagged out. Any number of things can cause this.

What if said quitter has something to do in real life? Never thought of that huh?

If said quitter has something to do in real life then a penalty time out of five minutes shouldn't matter because something more important has come up, they are not going to be back in five minutes. I realize that stuff happens and you have to hurry and quit the game to take care of it. This discussion is more directed at those who quit for no good reason. Like they don't like the map or the game is over and they lost so they quit right before the game ends.

Heh, yesterday when I played team snipers some little kids kept complaining on how much they hate the maps.

  • 08.09.2007 3:50 AM PDT

My solution would be to keep a quitting record for every player. Then, in player matches, the system would prefer to match those with like quitting records together. So people who don't like quitting would tend to end up playing with others who don't like quitting, and they would likely have a lot more matches finished. And those who do like quitting would tend to play with others who like quitting, so nobody cares if the game falls apart from all the quitters. Well, maybe they will care, but who cares about them? They shouldn't quit every other game if they don't like the effect it has.

Listen, plain and simple........................ITS A GAME.................ITS MEANT TO BE FUN................FOR YOUR OWN ENTERTAINMENT............

And if im not having fun in a particular game, then i'll -blam!- ing quit. If i HATE a certain map, then i'll -blam!- ing quit. If i HATE a certain gametype, then i'll
-blam!- ing quit. Im pretty sure thats why a lot of people do so. I don't see a problem with that. I sure as hell aint going to continue in a game im not enjoying, for example................playing on warlock, elongation or playing territories. I don't give a -blam!- about rank and i sure as hell don't give a -blam!- if the team is a man down cos i quit.

I payed for xbox live for my own entertainment and fun. I certainly didn't pay for it to please others !!

I agree, people quitting are the most annoying thing ever. A RP reduction, and/or a time penalty would be amazing. If a person really needs to something IRL (eat, go squeeze out a big ol' mudd monkey, ect..) then even a 10 minute penalty wouldn't matter to them.

Halo 3's veto feature should help this out by leaps and bounds, and I'm real excited for that. The solution for H2? Get a bunch of friends to party up or play a custom game, or just try to get your rank high enough to where you're playing with people that actually care.

So you'd be fine being only able to play with others who quit the same amount, yes?

I came to the realization yesterday that most of the people that quit are a bit younger and can't stick around for a whipping. I think that young people today are constantly looking for the easiest way out.

  • 08.09.2007 7:01 AM PDT

if people have something to do in real life then dont start a game plain and simple, if something unforseen comes up, dont quit just hide ntil the game is over you might be back before then. anyways i dont care about people who quit for good reason in real life that are unexpected. the problem is alot of people quit in halo 2 for some stupid reason, like quiting because the other team scores in round one. if your doing badly change tactics and learn from your mistakes, dont quit and then go on to make more. dont like a map? learn to like it! there might be somehting you liek about it that you didnt know,

oh and that person saying about him wanting to have fun so he should be allowed to quit if he wants to ive got an answer for that, if everyone thought like you most games you actually find and enjoy will be ruined by having someone quit because they dont like it so in the end noone has fun, just because your not having fun doesnt mean you have the right to stop eveyone else from having fun, be a good sport and try to have a good time with your team. theres a gametype you dont like? dont choose the catagory that game comes under. imagine if you really enjoyed warlock and wanted to play a good game on it in team slayer when it finally came up, then your whle team quits and you dont have fun because the whole other team is killing you when you respawn. now think about that the next time you quit

to sum up:

dont start a game if you know your going soon
alot of people dont mind if you have to leave for legitimate reasons
if something comes up at least try to finish the game first
dont quit because your not having fun it just ruins everyone elses game, i dont like owning the enemy its not a challenge and i dont like getting owned because of quiters its not fun
dont quit cos you think youl loose youll never learn how to win and make a comeback
dont quit!

Thats YOUR solution...............Not bungies idea !!

There is also the possibility that some people just cannot play on certain maps........horrible at them for some unknown reason yet good on others.

Id much rather quit early and give the team the chance to win, than stay and annoy the team having a K/D ration of -10 or something.......!! Thats not fun and its certainly no fun for me playing a game or on a certain map i don't enjoy, just for the sake of it..............Im not wasting my time.

I play this game for FUN only and only play when i have NOTHING else to do........playing video games is a HOBBY only, and should be just that.

I really couldn't give a monkeys ass what you think of me quitting every now and then and lets be honest...................There is nothing your going to do about it. Live with it and stop going in by yourself if you don't like it.

Those posts are pretty well thought out...it's amazing how many people didn't bother to read them, or didn't understand them.

A summary, since they're long.

1 - Remove the "Leave game option" in MM (not custom or campaign), this forces players to either stay in game or turn of the console/go to dashboard, inconveniencing them in return for inconveniencing everyone else in the game.

2 - Possible limit to quitting with repercussions afterwards.

3 - If you really have to leave (food, emergency), you can either leave your controller sitting there, or turn the system off.

Remember people, it might be your ~$100 for the game and live, but it's everyone else's $300-700(or more), and you're ruining their game.

A fair enough synopsis. I think that Bungie isn't/can't do enough to adequately fight people who quit constantly. I think that a -10RP penalty for quitting and a quit record is a step in the right direction. Relying upon the abysmal feedback/rep system is not going to cut it.

Subject: Flawed Ranking system

Halo: Reach the broken game!!!

I'm not sure how or when it happen, but the ranking system used for Halo 2 is no longer effective. I'm not sure if its because of frequent cheating, or when people reach a certain rank in Halo 2 and can't win anymore, so they cancel there current account with xbox live and sign up for a new one and start all over from level one, or people just plan quitting all the time to try and de-rank. I cant tell you how many different times I've been in a game and the scores are not even remotely close. When you get matched up with other players and your losing by 20 or 30 plus kills their is something wrong with the current ranking system they have. I don't know about you, but I'm not sticking around to give the other team the gratification of a total blow out. I much rather quit and start a new game. I usually look at what the score is when the other team is at 40 kills, and if my team is short players and we are losing by 10 or more kills I quit.
