I've been playing on live for a while, and nothing makes me more angry than losing on someone else's crappy host. My upload usually supports 8 people in game, as long as everyone has semi-decent internet. Why then do I never get host in 2V2, and why does it always lag? Sometimes it's because the host isn't in the country (I live in the US), which is slightly more annoying, but more understandable as well. But I've also been matched up on really crappy hosts in the country, and it's so unfair to me. I imagine that a *lot* of people have this problem. I know TONS of people that have massive uploads and they also rarely get host.

So how is host determined? I've run out of patience and I absolutely *have* to know. Who do I ask about this? Who is going to be able to explain to me why I almost never get host, and instead someone with 200K upload gets it instead?

*bump* Please, it's important to me that I find out. Does anyone know who I should ask?

Host is supposed to be determined by who has the best connection unless someone standby's for host. I have the same problem you do though and ive heard this from alot of people. The hosting system thats in place is GARBAGE! im a 34 in TS and ive gotten host once. y connection is always great and when I play customs I can support 10-12 people with little to no lag at all. Every time I play matchmaking now, some kid gets host and everyone in the game but him is yellow or red the whole time and you cant kill anyone (not standbying).

Im pissed off enough about hosts anyway because if you look at my games, you can almost always tell who had host that game. The other team gets host 99% of the time and the host will go 20-5 while the rest of his team sucks. Im not losing because of skill, im losing because of crappy hosts. I cant blame the other team for abusing it but my god....id love to get host at least once.

Your xbox throws a pair of virtual dice for each player, and the person with the worst score gets host.

That still doesn't explain how someone that can't even host 4 people can get host. I rarely do anything that ties up my internet while playing live. I don't understand how it could possibly have been set up so that someone with a -blam!- host gets it. Thanks for the news tho

Freedom of Speech does not equal "Freedom from Consequences when one speaks".

It is a right, and all rights have responsibilities associated with them. Ignore the responsibility, and you tend to lose the right.

I have a dedicated modem just for my 360, and switch off my computer when I'm on XBL. I also never get host, but I attribute that to the latency problems in my connection. I don't believe you can manipulate the tests that XBL performs, to guarantee host for yourself. Makes sense if others in the household are hogging bandwidth with the computer that it will negatively impact your chances at host, but I don't think you can boost your chances beyond what your connection would normally rate. I could be wrong, but I believe these test pings continue every time you sign on, so that your host opportunity is better viewed as a running average, that can improve or get worse over time if your connection quality changes.

My connection is easily capable of hosting 24 player COD3 games. It also hosts Halo2 16 player BTB's without any trouble.

But I too still have to play on some truly awfull hosts. I mean the sort where I might as well throw pillows at the other team... because frankly it would hurt them more! 'Frustrating' doesn't even come close.

Sometimes it's cheating. And sometimes it's just a crappy host.

I'm just praying that Bungie/MS have fixed both for H3.
