Okay then I have been thinking about cinematics lately. Since Bungie now has that new little program Frankie mentioned a few weeks ago that allows you to see cinematics on a whole new level, how cool would it be to see the UNSC fighting the Covenant? In all honesty I think they should show at least one battle in space. An accurate one at that. Here is what I am getting at.

Now in space there is no sound, while you outside of ships that is. What they could do is add it when a ship is impacted, but you are looking at the impact from inside the ship so you can hear it. But when you are out you don't hear a damn thing. of course there would be great music to keep your mind off the fact there is no sound. Bungie did this well in Halo one with the opening and ending cinematics where there was no sound while out in space. This of course would just add to the realism of the overall game. Moving onward.

Not only do I want to have accurate physics in these movies, but accurate Covenant kicking UNSC butt stuff. We have a fair fight against the Covenant when we outnumber them 3-to-1. And a nuke going off only takes down the shields on any Covenant craft leaving no physical damage to the ships themselves. What I want to see is the UNSC getting torn apart despite their valiant efforts. Think about it. Plasma flying through space, MACs going off leaving trails of white behind them, the flowering bulkheads of human ships as they are hit by a plasma torpedo, and the shimmer of Covenant shield technology, and the hell that is a fleet battle. Of course the UNSC will have to win at Earth, otherwise a mission groundside would be pointless. Participating in one of these battles wouldn't be all that great (simply because taking the command of a MAC would be kinda boring if you ask me), but they would be cool to watch.

So what do you guys think on seeing a fleet battle?

Please leave some intelligent thoughts and opinions on this one. Thanks.

Very nicely thought up. I think that's a great idea.

I would love that, but I would only like them as cinematics. I wouldnt like to play in them. I would just like to watch.

They want the 'Halo.' But I tell them: 'No! No Halo! For you, only the 'Frenzy'! The 'Frenzy' and maybe some 'Munch'

Didn't frankie say that there will be space battles in cut scenes? Either way, I like the idea, but just as a cinematic. I'd hate to actually control a ship, but the cutscene idea sounds good.

Yeah he did say something like that.....I'm just hoping it is for cinematics only though. I don't need to pilot a ship against the Covenant. That is just suicide.

Are we talking the Super MACs or the MACs on a ship? Either way you are a pretty big target to be taken out. And if yuo are a Super MAC you are kind of a sitting duck. Plus it takes some three shots to kill a Covenant ship and reload times on those things are forever.

Spamming Bungie since 2004!
Those who want to live, let them fight, and those who do not want to fight in this world of eternal struggle do not deserve to live.

The idea sounds awesome. Plain awesome. Watching the humans getting blown up in space, then going in for a ground assault. That's just plain cool.

Although, *SPOILERS* with the technology that Cortana got from the covenant ship in First Strike, human ships are bound to get stronger.

In that short of time? Maybe a few ships, but not many. We just won't have the technology in time to do much good. The Covenant attack in 2552 and at the end of First Strike there are very few months left in that year. Like 3 left.

Yeah, good point. Maybe in a couple of months, like after the cheif fights the covenant off earth.

Watch, I think they would be freaking awesome. Boarding mid battle with jetpacks? Elites rarely use them unless they are boarding a craft with a whole bunch of other units. They don't just go into space and start blasing away at a ship doing minmal damage. Nor does the UNSC, we just use ships. We may have a few times in the past, but that was few and far between. The idea of a jetpack is kinda a turnoff on Halo 2, but if Bungie does it right maybe. But I'm hoping just for a cinematic.

Forget jetpacks, we're Spartans. Do a quick flyby over a ship with a Pelican and we'll "leap" out the back with a grapple gun and reel ourselves in to attack.

That would be exciting!

Actually, according to the FoR, the Super MACs around Reach (and Earth) recharge every 5 or 6 sec. (can't remember the exact time, its somewhere around there). I think the MACs are the ones that take a longer time.

Great idea, big freakin' fleet battle. Then the captain of the ship goes kamikaze and drives the ship's hull into a convenant frigate - kaboom!

Keep on thinking, folks.

I think that would kick total ass! Of course they'd have to get the explosions right (a lack of oxygen in space means explosions tend to get put out quick and only occur when the oxygen in the ship is leaked out the burnt away) but it would be fun! And if Chief does get involved can anyone say "Boarding party"??

Also Hikaru, this is the first post I have seen which has given enough options that take into account all opinions so kudos to you my friend! =D

" The entire fleet is engaged Cortana. So what the hell sort of reinforcement have you got? "

My response, " The Best kind Admiral "

This is one of the many things that perplexed me in my research. Explosions in space. Apparently very little research on what happens has been done or at least the results of such haven't been published in on online medium.

Most of the damage from explosions, nuclear as well, are caused by debris being pushed, accelerated to ballistic speeds out on a pressurized wave of air. You can see this when a nuclear blast pushes over houses.

Without any atmosphere where does all that energy go? Does it get concentrated into the debris of the explosive device? Does it get converted into another medium such as light or heat?

I think it just goes real quick, uses its energy, and then disipates in the vastness of space.

Yeah, a Space Battle would be awesome as well as visually spectacular.
I think it would be kinda cool if during the fight a small convoy of three small ships flew in to board one of the Covenent Cruisers kind of like the last level in Knights of the Old Republic. MC and a few ODSTs and/or the remaining Spartans boarded to take over one of the Cruisers and use it to UNSC's advantage w/Cortana's help of course. That would be cool unless it is logistically impossible.

I didn't read the books, so if it is actually possible to dock and board a Covenant Cruiser, then I have no idea. Feel Free to educate me.

Fleet Battles in cutscenes would be so very awesome...how I long to see Earth's batteries of Super-MACs firing all they've got at the Covenant. It'd be the coolest thing ever to see some of the human fleet go kamikaze on the Covenant. It'd probably be the most realistic thing that would happen...they'd do anything to protect Earth. Once the MC hijacks a Covie Cruiser though, the battle will turn. With Cortana's special brand of modifications to the Covevnant technology...hehe...the tide will turn...

So...um...fleet battles will rule!
