it might have something to do with the placement of your 360. If you put it in a cubby, or in a place with poor ventalation, that can screw it up.

Actually, I used to have problems with the Xbox overheating and then the game would freeze, my system was on the floor. I moved it up so its sitting kind of on a cabinet like thing, and in the past several months games have only frozen on me like twice

lucky for you they extended the warranty. the x360 cooler is actually what caused my 3 lights of death last time, i would personally stay as far away from those things as possible.

The Nyko fan cooler voids the warranty of the Xbox 360. I was told by customer support that the fan cooler makes the power supply work too hard and can cause overloads.

You need to make sure that your Xbox is in a cool place, not on top of your TV (heat rises) and has lots of breathing room. Then, you need to make sure the breathing holes arent clogged. Once you have done all of that, disconnect your fan cooler and try it again. If that dosent work, turn it on and disconnect the hard drive and re connect it 20 seconds later.

Microsoft stated a while back that most of the 3 LoD are caused from faulty solder joints. If that's the actual problem or not, who knows, but it sounds believable to me. An overloaded PS would also make sense, too bad the 3 LoD error is such a broad spectrum of problems.

I'm expecting to see the red rings of death appear on my 360 on september 24th.

Another thing that could be causing the problem would be if you have the 360 plugged into a surge protector. The big grey box in the power cord is already a surge protector so I heard that you should be plugging directly into the wall if possible.

AKA: Tac0 has skill; Und3ad Tac0;

dude if u use an external fan that connects to the back of the 360 its seems to not get enough power and you get numerous errors and evantualy th ring of death trust me use one of those cheap fans and place towards ur 360 instead of using it off the power source it wont happen as much

DO NOT LEAVE YOUR XBOX 360 SIDEWAYS!!!!!!!!!
leave it upright, the venalattion screws up when you have it sideways

Actually my 360 got the red lights of death a month ago and it was upright the entire time I had it. ( about one year ) I think it was caused by it being plugged into a surge protector. Anyway, I got a replacement 360 from microsoft and then a ps3 on the same day :D

1. Buy from a reliable retailer who will refund you much quicker than Microsoft (amazon sent me a brand new package)
2. Keep it vertical if it overheats a lot
3. More important than the location of the console is the location of the power brick, put in on an open box
4. Most fans are plugged in between the power brick and the console, THIS IS BADDD!!!!!! the power brick is meant to supply the 360 and the 360 alone with the power it needs, if not enough is present then it will not supply any power (prevents HD failure), imagine if you supply just enough power to run your 360 then interrupt it with a hog with a motor (fan)...
