I would like first of all to know all the details first. What is a clan? What do you do with a clan? That sort of stuff. After you have explained the those little details then please tell me about how I start about creating a clan, how to mantain it, and what is required to keep it going. And also what kind of minimum computer specs I would probably need to run it. I am slightly bored with the click and jump in a map method.

A clan is like a team, on which you fight other teams, in order to see who's the best. clans can be orginized around teamwork, or by recruiting players that can kill a lot

To start a clan, you should:
A) get a server. if your gonna get a clan, you need a server in which members canlog on to all the time. something with agood internet conection, and halo DS installed
-note, is is possible to get around this......

B)an IM service, so you can talk to your clan members.

C)Members. start with a few friends, and than start recruiting people you find on other servers (though avois other clans servers. they get irritated), or announce that you're recruiting

D) a way to get in touch with other clans... their websites usualy are good, but in realiaty, i don't know how...

E)a websight would be nice, just so you can be contacted by other clans for fights, and so your clan members can get updates.

i think that's about it, if anyone else has anything to add... please do so.

Heyyo,

Well, rules my friend, rules. You need to setup a good infastructure. It's like a community man, you gotta have law to govern it or it becomes anarchy and falls apart.

For recuting, I suggest doing an innitiation test, see how well this potential new member stacks up in skills compared to some members already in the clan.

Try to setup that you need to be logged in at least once every 2 weeks once recruited for the first while to ensure you're serious aboot joinin' the clan and not just a "spur of the moment" kindof thing.

Also, finding a good webhost is important, preferrably a board. http://groups.yahoo.com/ or http://groups.msn.com/ for free forums. ;)

Hey guys, thanks for these tips but believe me when I say there not as helpful as you think. I am going to need a step by step instruction manual on how to get a clan set up and what i need to keep it running. I dont understand it enough to just go and make one from the info here. Like I dont know how to construct a website or like you said there mard, I dont know to get an initiation test going. Just think of me as a guy who just found out the internet existed. I am serious about trying to get a clan going and I really want to make it good and keep it that way. Im sure you know what I mean. Oh one last thing, what is Halo DS?

Heyyo,

DS = Dedicated Server. Most of the big clans, or successful clans have one, and no you don't have to go out and pay $22 a month to homelan for a decent server, you can host one yourself onna separate computer.

I suggest at least these stats for a dedicated server:

AMD Athlon XP 2500+ (the bigger the cpu, the less chances of lag)
1Gig of PC3200 RAM (Samsung's cheap and durable RAM, cheaper than PC2700 ram too. The more ram the lower the loading times and less chance of lag)
ATI Radeon 8500 PRO (or something like that.. just get a half-decent videocard. Remember, the server doesn't render the whole map, it loads a very basic model of it and models of players, vehicles, etc, and then does all the calcuations from there.)
Asus motherboard (Cause asus seems to make the best AMD motherboards out there)
2mbit ADSL connection (the bigger the connection, the more players you can get without lag, or high latency issues)

What a fellow clan leader is doing is he's got a comp with stats higher than those, and is gonna use that comp for hosting dedicated servers for whatever game we decide to play. Then we'll get full control of the server, and the workings. So if you tk or do something really cheap or cheating? you're banned you mofo. ;)

So yeah, he hosts the DS from that comp, tells the clan the IP so we can connect to it easily without having to use ingame browsers, and it'll run great. Of course his main gaming rig will be like, right beside it on a LAN, so he'll have no lag issues at all, so he's really happy aboot hosting. :)

Yeah, I've layed down the fundamental parts of creating clans, but there's more to it. I spent aboot a good 1/2 a day fully setting up the new clan with rules n' information.

OH! if you can, host your DS onna Linux operating system, they're much better than windows for it due to how much more efficient Linux is compared to windows. ;)

Here's a basic chart of OS efficiency:

Linux > Mac > Windows

Windows is very cpu intensive compared to the rest, but the most popular... hopefully that next version of windows learns from linux, and doesn't sap the crap outta your comp just to use window's GUI. :p

He is lying. He obviously is talking $hit. He probably has microsoft crap jammed in there or if he is just saying this he is a liar. My dad is a top programmer at his company and has 11 comps, must of them running Linux. I tried Halo on one of them and it worked better than my top grade brand new dell with windows professional XP. So yeah, you have something over him.
