Fall of Reach, followed closely by First Strike, followed by, and far behind, The Flood.

Yeah FoR is the best because it gives you the back story on the SPARTANS

None of them, books based on videogames are all bad. If I was seen reading one of those I would never have a social life again.

MaxBFrex, reading the Halo books gives you great back story to Halo. It will make a lot of things become more clear and yuo can avoid being chastised by those more knowledgable in the Halo field when you ask questions about something that is described in the books. Plus it won't ruin your social life unless you let it.

heres my order..

1.Fall of Reach
2.First Strike
3.The flood

ive actually never read any of them, sept the first few pages on fall of reach. but i wanna learn all this stuff about spartans that you guys know and i dont, and it seems all interesting. and first strike would be seemingly closely related to halo2, so no doubt thats gotta be cool. and the flood...ive already played halo, who needs it?

Scale from 1-10 and the order of choice (best to worst):

Fall of Reach 9.8
First Strike 9.75
The Flood 5.3

My thumbsticks will be your Doom.... sorry 'bout that.
My Stats

Well you should definietly read First Strike if you haven't already (be careful though, if you run in the same circles as Max then no one will ever forgive you). It gives you a detailed account of the actual fall of Reach and the reason why the Covies wanted it so bad (they bypass several inner colonies to get to it) and it sets you up nicely for Halo 2 (although there might be another book release that'll take place in between FS and Halo2).
The Flood is only realy good if you're an extreme die hard fan cause it basically just tells the story of the game from the Cheif's, marine's and Elite/Grunt's POV.

i like the fall of reach and the most dramatic part is when Sam stays behind to blow up the covenant ship and master cheif is thinking about what Sargent Mendosa said about sacrificing men and he then now realizes what he was talking about not sacrificing men but sacrificing a man who is using his life to save others. i cried for 2 hours after reading that section

The Food was well written from a military back ground but W. Dietz was hamppered by the fact that he had to follow the game. He is an exeptional writer & if given an other book to write (without the game line) it would be excellent.
First strike is also a wonderful read but again is not hampered by the game.
Lastly my personal favorite is Fall of Reach for the back ground. Again is not hampered by the game.

First Strike is awesome...one of the best Sci-fi books I've read. It fills in between Halo and Halo 2, and I must say, it is a wild ride.

Especially the assualt on the 'Uneven Elephant'. hehe
