It's one of Bungie's older games, (a lot older) and Marathon 2: Durandal was ported to Xbox Live Arcade for the 360 recently..

I suggest you take a look here for the best source of straightforward information on the series.

There is a reason I am user ID 1 and my account creation date is before this site came online.

Nintendo graphics??!?! Nintendo graphics?!?! Nintendo would be lucky to have graphics this full of WIN! [/sarcasm]

The original Marathon games were made in the mid-90's, if you were expecting Grays of War-ish graphics, I think you're a decade too early.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

Marathon was the first FPS series to have an extremely detailed and involved storyline that actually developed as you played the game. Really, it was unheard of before that, and it began a revolution in FPS gaming. Marathon was many years before its time.

If you have a 360, I absolutely recommend you spend the few bucks it costs to download Marathon 2: Durandal for the arcade and check it out -- it's awesome!

And by the way, the wallpapers ARE gorgeous -- the art is by Craig Mullins, who has done lots of fantastic artwork for Bungie and many others in the past. If you like those wallpapers, I definitely suggest you check out Craig Mullins' website at http://www.goodbrush.com.

Enjoy!

"That's about all that can be said for plots, which anyway are just one thing after another, a what and a what and a what.

Now try how and why."

In extremely simplified terms (as to not spoil the story), but it gets extremely complex as you go farther into the game

The first one is about an computer that has gone insane and is trying to escape the end of the universe which he believes he will make him god.

The second one his search has taken him to the home planet of a slave race to fight the alien slavers.

The third one the player has to stop the alien slavers from destroying the sun, which would release a bunch of nasty creatures that were trapped along time ago.

You can get them all free here for free.

Or you can get the second one off of xbla

They were released in 1994, 1995, 1996, so don't expect mind blowing graphics.

Rumor has it Marathons' universe is the same as Halos' universe. Although Bungie denies it.

Actually, I believe that the events in Marathon took place about 200 years from the events of Halo.

It's a great game, great story line, very challenging (not that challenging I guess), cool weapons and enemies, awesome levels, multiplayer is fun, the controls are great, and with the high-res texture pack, it has good graphics. Graphics don't make a video game, which is sad why people believe that now.

Wrong. They are completely different. They just resemble each other. A lot.

Marathon was the sequel to Pathways.

Actually, the sequel of pathways into darkness "Mosaic" was sort of disolved into Marathon. (though the dude stated that he disliked sequels so he said it wouldn't be called pathways II)

Marathon started out as a really simple arcade shooter that was like an Id game (though it would be completely different), and Mosaic was like PID, Then the games kind of were merged. The way marathon originally was sounded awsome, not that marathon isn't awsome, but this sounded like somthing you could brag about today(the reason alot of this stuff wasn't seen was because they had to rush it, just like every game they've made since), enemies would actually go about doing their own things in a truely nonlinear free roaming environment (even more so than pid).

This was the preview of Marathon in July 94

This was Marathon as an arcade shooter

This is an interview where I got alot of this stuff, it also shows Jone's genius (this was written pre-doom due mind you).

A person is working on "map editor one" which works for XP, can't remember where it is though.

Death is lighter than a feather, Duty is heavier than a mountain.

I was under the impression that everything bungie did was linked in one way or another.
