Well? No doubt there are already many posts about this, but I seem to be suffering through a bout of laziness. More or less I'm leaning toward DS, because...well... I don't like Playstation that much. But, I'm open to change. I think the cool thing about DS is first of all, built in PicoChat! and also, the multiplayer thing. I'm not sure if PSP has it or not, but I can't think of anything stating it offhand. But then, the PSP has (I'm guessing) the guys at Insomniac behind them (the guys that did Rachet and Clank) and they also have Jak and Daxter (I'm a platformer/action game fan). Anyway, looking foreward to your input.

Thanks.

Couldn't you just search on the internet for information or look for actual reviews on these two handheld systems?

...DS

How am I supposed to actually watch movies on a PSP? And I'd look stupid trying to listen to music on it.

And I haven't seen any innovative titles.

...I'd rather go with a PSP. The DS, while a great idea on paper, is actually too much to actually be something practical. The two screens are too much for your eyes to handle, the stylus is crap, and the PSP has graphics that are lightyears ahead of it. Seriously...while MP:Echoes is impressive for a handheld title, it's still poo-poo ugly, especailly when you compare it with just about any PSP game. Plus, the control is absolutely crappy, and there isn't any way to change the look to inverted(sob).
The two good things about the DS are a rechargeable batter, and backwards-compatibility with GB and GBA games. The problem with THAT, however, is that the GBA screen is actually bigger than the DS screen, so the graphics are cut off.

Personally, I'd rather save my money and get a PSP...I'd probably have more fun with it. I'm not much of a Nintendo fan, anyways.

I can only state what I know. I know all of the specs of both machines, and I know the PSP is definately superior technically and asthetically.

I also know that after 3 days with my DS I am in love with it. Seriously. I want to have sex with this thing. Those who can't get past it's dated hardware or frightening outward apperance and concepts are only fooling themselves.

Having played a PSP and own a DS (I pre-ordered my PSP for Dec 12 in japan), Though I will own a PSP, the third party support and hardware abilities really put the DS at an advantage. Sony is going for the iPod gadget market. Not the gamer market. Which will put them at a disadvantage dealing with their primary market which is the casual gamer. Not to mention by the time the PSP reaches the states the DS will more than likely take a price drop and at what will most likely be a 100 dollar difference most consumers will stick with the nintendo product both out of brand loyalty and price effectiveness. And honestly when you actually SEE a psp in motion, the games have the same problem that DS games do. They run games that have decent poly count but since its still basicly a PS1/N64 graphics chip in both, it can't texture worth a darn. But since it has a good amount of ram and a fast processor it runs smooth. So when you see Metal Gear Acid it looks like a turbo charged PS1 title, just like the DS games.

I think people are looking to hard into this. True, Nintendo's targeting younger audience and Sony's for the older crowd. But really, all the REAL gamers don't care. We look at a cutsey nintendo game or a edgy PSP game, all we see is great games, not reflections of what kind of people we are.

My view, anyone who won't try something because it's a 'tad inferior' or has more than 6 colors is only insecure about themselves. That's pretty sad.

ds its battery makes it portable. psp would just be a very small home console that has to be plugged into a wall. Also ds has Mario W00t r0X.

DS. The PSP is going to break like all Sony products do. And the PSP is 300 bucks. Rip off!

PSP! DS stand for Donkey's Sack. What the hell you need two screens for? Waste of technology. AND money.

The PSP has incredibly few titles I'd be interested in, costs 300 dollars, and has a two hour battery life, completely eliminating the playability of the few titles I'd like to play on it. I'd never buy one.

The DS, as it stands, doesn't have much coming out before mid-way next year that I think it'd be worth compromising purchasing a digital camera, Dazzle, and a bunch of assorted kickass gadgets for. Metroid: Hunters and Super Mario 64 DS look fantastic, but two titles isn't enough to justify purchasing an entire system.

However, I know I will never be able to resist the Advance Wars DS. I loved the little Advance Wars 1 that I played, and I'm hopelessly addicted to Advance Wars 2, so much so that I'm constructing a map as we speak!

So.. I suppose I'll buy a DS when Advance Wars comes out.

I would just like to address the GBA screen cut off rumor. I have NO idea how this thing got started, but I did a side by side comparison, and the DS screens are bigger (slight vertical enlargement) than the GBA screens. GBA graphics aren't "cu-off" but those small bars at the top and bottom are compensation for the bigger surface area.

Get your facts straight before spouting off.

I played around with both at e3 and I think the DS is just a better product. The PSP is a portable playstation that plays playstation games...I've already played all the playstation games I wanna play. The DS on the other hand has a ton of different ways to interact with software and the dual screen idea is quite nice.

I never thought that I would be able to play a fps game with good control but they figured it out with the ds. The touch screen + a thumb cover(thing) nearly replicates a thumbstick. Its a little loose with metroid but I think it'll work. I love the system and I love how nintendo wasn't just trying to bring the n64 to your pocket. They brought a lot more...

The PSP price range should be under 200 dollars.

That's certainly not near as bad. When the price drops, I might purchase one. But the other deficiencies completely overshadow the price. I mostly play pocket games on long road trips, and a two hour battery life would kill that.

I'd go with the psp its got a better line up of games in my opinion but what will really sway me is what kind of software people would develop for the hand helds like how the gba was made to run nes emulators and play mp3s etc check out http://www.gameboy-advance.net/emulated/play_on_gba_flash_car d.htm for example, anyways this is off-topic but did anyone ever buy a sega nomad>? just wonderin.

The ds is clearly the better "bang for your buck" I love the Ds I am hopefully purchasing one soon

the psp is grand and does advent children but I think I will go ds and wait on the psp to drop in price before I buy it

If I don't get a DS for Christmas, then I'll be buying one right after. Super Mario 64 DS looks too cool, and the fact that Viewtiful Joe and Animal Crossing are both planned have made me want one more than the PSP.

I'm kinda leaning for the PSP because its hardware abilities are amazing, however, the line of games is ok compared with that of DS which is better, but I'll have to wait and see what Sony does with their game lineup. Also, the price of the PSP is also going to factor in.

At first I thought, definetely PSP, but now that I have played DS, I would have to say it is pretty impressive, I am still torn, but I am leaning toward PSP, I will have to see which one I like better when PSP comes out, I can wait.

Sorry guys, but I have to stick w/ Nintendo on this, so DS for me. It's by far, not the best idea, but Nintendo hasn't failed me (too badly, at least) yet. I always thought that Sony should of stayed away from gaming consoles, the new PS2 looks like it would be shattered by the weight of a DS. If I pay $300 for a handheld, I don't think I would buy it from a company who makes physically weak systems. Also, (due to Nintendo hogging most of their game titles, not to mention Xbox not sharing Halo) the PS hasn't really had any games that have sparked my intrest, what do you think the PSP games will be from? Anyway, I choose the DS over the PSP due to price, availbility, and the fact that I've always hated any Playstation system and am not about to change my mind just because it has may have better graphics.
