Please dont lock this thread, Bungie. Im only asking questions and searching for answers. I AM NOT promoting cheating of any sort. Thank you.

Ok, over the last few days I've been readng some Halo 2 threads, and I hear a lot about cheating, button combos, etc. I also hear a lot about superbouncing. Is it cheating (taking advantage of something that wasnt meant to be) or not? Here are two situations on Lockout that confuses me on whether or not superbouncing is actually cheating.

1.) Taking advantage: On Lockout in Team Slayer, I was playing with my friends. We were down about 15-8 when I decieded to superbounce with my Sniper Rifle. I successfully superbounced onto the very high tower. Two minutes later, we were up 27-16. I noticed that my kills had gone from two to twelve (all sniper rifle kills except two BR/grenade kills). Is this considered cheating since I obviously took adavantage of a glitch that was helpful (not needed) for our team? I could've just sucked it up and tried to comeback. (We actually won the game 50-49!)

2.) Recreation: On Lockout i Team Slayer, my team and I were up 40-21. I decided to superbounce (same one) since I knew we would win. I successfully superbounced with just a BR. Now, I struggled to get kills (I know it wasnt the smartest idea to superbounce only with a BR), and my teammates pretty much did all the work. We went on to win 50-26. Now one could argue that I cheated because I superbounced? Did I take advantage of a glitch? Yes. However, one can also argue that I didnt cheat. Did I help my team by cheating? No. I had no kills or assists. My teammates did the work. So, this situation was meant for fun.

Now that you have read this, please tell me your suggestions about this topic.

Thanks again

Yes, exploiting one of the many glitches in Bungie's bad game is cheating.

There is a reason I am user ID 1 and my account creation date is before this site came online.

It's cheating regardless, and you've showed twice reasons why.

This topic will be locked.

if u ask me, it is not cheating, but very very annoying.

my suggestion is to ask bungie in a personal letter or E-mail or something. ANYWAY i say super-jumping is fair.
after all, anyone is able to jump. u just have to know how.

There was a man from Allentown who fed his son to death.
He calmly watched him gorge himself until his final breath.
And there he stood, surprised and shocked above his tiny frame.
He said: "I bear no blame for this. I only share his name!"

Yes it is cheating. Don't do it in MM. Thread locked for cheating discussion.

it is not cheating. read the rules, it says that too many people do it and that it was built into he maps so, its not cheating. the site even says that!! too many people do it and cannot be banned by it. it is cheating, but, you cant be banned by it. i consider cheating, having an advantage, but, you cant get banned by it. its like BXR, its cheating, but, you cant get banned for it. hope this helps!

As Quoted by Bungie...

Quitting a game is not a bannable offense. Having a team-killer on your team sucks, but that's not a bannable offense either. Many people are also aware of the "super jumping" phenomenon that allows players on some maps to jump to extreme heights. We are monitoring this situation for long term impacts to game balance but we are not banning people who do this simply because it's too widespread and is something that's basically built into the map. Anyone can do this if they want to though it is difficult to pull off in many cases. We will continue to monitor the impacts this bug has on our game.

"The best part of waking up is not Folgers in your cup but knowing Chuck Norris didn't kill you in your sleep."

Cheating is cheating is cheating! You all come up with these threads in hopes that you can justify your poor sportsmanship. It doesn't matter the reason for the cheat or what you accomplished by cheating. Cheating is cheating. If you are in school and take answers off of your friends test is it cheating only if you get a passing score? No. You committed the act of cheating. You tried to engratiate yourself regardless of the outcome. By superbouncing in either case you removed yourself from the boundries of the game and map and gave yourself and your team an unfair advantage. If you know you're going to win and your opponents aren't that good you should have switched to a different weapon type to give yourself more of a challenge or you should have simply finished out the game and thanked the other team for a good game. However you chose to cheat and are therefore a cheater. Hopefully you were reported as such and will be summarily booted from the online play. If I ever play against you I will report you as a cheater if you superbounce or use any other glitch or unintended item in the game.

@ xxTHE KMANN xx

Totally agree. But you are wasting your breath.

Still, never mind. No superbounces in Halo3. They will have to rely on skill instead.

Which might be a bit of a problem as they were 15-8 down in the first place.... LOL, I just love all these fools who have been frantically practicing glitching and cheating for the last four years. What a complete waste of time.

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

Anyway, exploiting a bug equals cheating on Xbox Live. If you're playing in an MLG tournament, they define what is cheating there, and obviously the Xbox Live rules don't apply.

But when you're in our sandbox, you play by our rules, and if you don't like them, well, it sucks to be you. And we don't ban anybody for BXRs or superjumping by the way - they are community served bans. The feedback system is the means by which players are voicing their opinion on this. And guess what, they agree with us.

At least our reasoning is simple and well defined (it can be summed up in one sentence and has been in the Xbox Live Terms of use from day one). You, on the other, have presented no valid defense of exploiting glitches in the game other than by calling "illegitimate." I think you should look up the definition of that word, you can't call a rule "illegitimate" if it comes from the people who own the sandbox (Xbox Live). Ever wonder why backpack reloading was taken out of Halo 2, even though it was a widely used aspect of Halo 1 play? All those who said "because it was a bug" get a cookie. Now, let's take some bets... what happens to people who depend only on glitches to win games when Halo 3 comes out? Anybody have some guesses there?

So... my general response to you is "quiet, you." Maybe you'll actually have to learn how to play without those glitches now. Or just keep to custom games and LANs... where (and this is the best part) this policy has absolutely no effect whatsoever! Since "you don't play matchmaking," why do you even care about this?

Very bad things.
