*sigh* I don't know what this will do to Master Chief. In Halo 2, MC was invurnerable to fire. The UNSC can't downgrade the last available SPARTAN-II's armor. That would just be plain stupid. However... does any body remember that they said in EGM (and maybe other places) that you could have people on fire?? So, it might be that MC's sheild is flammable. Or it is just a stupid theory of mine. The fire is, I am certain, able to destroy the environment.
A good example: A person in Valhalla is having fun hiding behind trees and owning people with a Spartan Laser. Guy 1 & 2 get sick of this. Guy 1 picks up the flamethrower and some camo, the other takes a sniper and lies in wait. Guy 1 burns down the tree, does no damage to the enemy, but exposes him. Enemy thinks: this guy is stupid, charges laser while it burns and steps out of cover to kill him. Guy 2 snipes the enemy. Cheering ensues.
I'm surprised no one has picked this up. The flamethrower is too heavy for an ordinary Marine to carry. This could be a turret, perhaps? But that is obviously stupid.
Weight (loaded): 55.5 kg (122.5 lbs)
And, this reminds me of a flamethrower I saw on a Samus Aran vs Master Chief video. Could this be a joke?
The incendiary grenade... hrmmm... It can't do any damage, but can blind people. This is vague. And, the fact that the throwing distances don't match up. makes it less believable.
I'm not sure this is real. Call me a nit-pick, but it is what I believe.
EDIT: Found this very funny in the description:
"Flamethrowers are cumbersome and relatively difficult to use (psychologically as well as mechanically)."
Yeah, I would definitely go crazy with a flamethrower! :D
EDIT 2: At the end of the article, this makes me think it is a 'for fun' weapon. Or, rather, 'toy'.
"[1] That the M7057/DP has been frequently pressed into service as a primitive energy weapon of sorts is a distressing but irrefutable fact. It is one in a very small number of items available to UNSC personnel that remotely earmarks the user for a full battery of psychological tests."
Also, the Grunts could be hurt by it, in theory. But, If this is a real weapon in Halo, I think it is going to be a multiplayer-exclusive 'weapon'.
EDIT 3: Actually, the grenade could possibly hurt MC and Elites. 2200°C is way above a flames top temperature, about 1400 °C. So, it is probable that his can damage people. And note this:
"Referring to the M7057/DP as a weapon[1] is a bit of a misnomer as the dee pea in its nomenclature indicate that it is a defoliant projector—to be used to rapidly clear away heavy foliage for in-theater construction projects and to destroy new or persistent growth from emplaced and/or hardened military assets."
This is most likely refering to Forge. Now that has me more interested in Forge. I'll bet you they will make Forge look more exciting.
Strangest update.
