Connecting to and Using Xbox LIVE through Halo 2 on your 360-A Simple Guide

Note the Following:

This simple guide does not have to do with the creation of Gamertags or Connecting with the Microsoft Xbox LIVE Service, and it does not address every issue or problem that may arise (far from it). It addresses simply how to make LIVE work through Halo 2 on a Xbox 360.

Connecting

Connecting to Xbox LIVE through Halo 2 on your 360 is pretty simple, just follow these instructions (from the Ask Xbox Interactive Agent) :

To connect to Xbox Live with Halo 2 using your Xbox 360, you must follow the steps shown below:

1. Confirm you are using a Standard AV connection (yellow, white and red cables) between your TV and Xbox 360 (you can switch back to your prior configuration after you completed these steps).
2. Insert Halo 2 in the disc tray
3. We recommend that you remove any Saved games before proceeding.
4. Press start, select a profile for example, "Default", then select your gamertag to sign in to Xbox Live, select "Get Update".
5. Your screen will go black for a moment, then the download will begin, then your Xbox will restart (if this fails, you may have a faulty internet connection, we recommend you confirm that your internet connection if functioning properly).
6. Log back in, select a profile, then select "Content Download", then select "Exit Halo 2"
7. Select your gamertag from the list
8. Download all the maps "Maptacular Pack", "Halo 2 Bonus Maps", and the "Killtacular Pack"
9. With your game in the disc tray, shut off your system and turn it back on. At this point you can readjust your AV cables if needed.
10. Log into the game, and start playing.

Problems

There have been more than a few cases where people (including myself) could not get their Halo 2 to work with live (on the 360). Here I've listed two common problems that are easy to fix:

(If your problem is not one of these, then go to Xbox Support or use the Ask Xbox Interactive Agent, or call 1-800-4MY-XBOX)

Problem: When you try to sign on to LIVE through the Halo 2 on certain Gamertags, it starts the loading screen, loads, then brings up a box that says:

You have an important message from Xbox LIVE, would you like to go to account management now?
->Go to account management
->Continue working offline

...and selecting either of these does not let you play on LIVE.

Info: This problem is caused by an option in the parental settings menu after an Xbox LIVE gamertag is made using a Live ID that indicates the user is under 18.

Fix: When this box appears, choose neither option. Press the Xbox guide button, then press Y (to go to the dashboard). Go to the system tab, then select Family Settings, then select Xbox LIVE Controls, select the Gamertag that isn't working. After signing in to it, the screen should ask for another password while displaying an e-mail address of the parent or legal guardian who completed the initial gamertag setup. Enter the password and select Sign In, select Online Gamplay, select Original Xbox Online Games, and set it to Allowed.

Problem: When you try to download the map packs (#8 on the connection instructions above), one or all of them fail to install after downloading for a few minutes.

Fix: There are two solutions to this:

1. Go to the Xbox 360 Dashboard, go to the System Tab, select memory, then select the Memory device your Halo 2 game is saved on. Highlight (don't select) the game and press Y to bring up game options. Select delete. This, sadly, will delete your profiles and unlocked missions, but the map pack downloads should work next time you start the game.

2.If the above fix didn't work, you can choose to clear your HDD's cache (deletes all game and software updates). Click here for instructions on how to do so. After clearing the cache start Halo 2. If the downloads still don't work, repeat fix 1.

If these fixes didn't help you, go to Xbox Support or use the Ask Xbox Interactive Agent, or call 1-800-4MY-XBOX.

Subject: Connecting to Xbox LIVE through Halo 2 on your 360-Simple Guide

Trailer Park Boys ~ One of the best Canadian made comedies ever.

Excellent guide, I’m going to add some information.

NAT problems:

Having problems joining your friend’s party? Can’t hear each other? These two errors are almost always caused by issues with you or your friend’s NAT.

Fix:

These are suggested steps that may get your NAT fixed and able to connect to your friends.

1) Write down your IP that your Xbox 360 is reporting (in network area)
2) Go to your PC and connect to your router via it's address, ex. 192.168.0.1 (keep in mind everyone’s is different so check your router manual if you don’t know what it is)
3) Go the DMZ (de-militarized zone) section in you router settings.
4) Set the IP which your 360 is using to be outside the DMZ.
5) Go back to 360 and reboot it, also reboot wireless gaming modem unless you have a cable hooked up to your 360 direct from router.
6) Do a "connect to Xbox Live" test and make sure the NAT test reports as "open" after the test is complete. If it still reports as moderate then you have not set the router /IP correctly in the DMZ.
7) Everything should work now.

Where on my Xbox 360 do I find my IP?

From your Xbox 360 Dashboard:
-Systems tab
-Network settings
-Edit settings
-Now it will display information including the IP that runs to your Xbox 360.

Still having problems?

An excellent thread that goes into greater detail on fixing your NAT with a wireless router.

*Remember, if you can't get your problem fixed, call Xbox Support , 1-800-4MY-XBOX. They're there to help you and will correct your issue.*

Linking Gamertag problems and "B.net" behind your tag:

First you have to link your gamertag before you can add the, "Bungie.net" feature behind your gamertag.

Click here and follow the steps to link your gamertag with your Bungie.net account.

Once that is done, click here and click, "Show" under, "Customize Halo 2" at the bottom of the page.

Is the B.net guide on linking your gamertag to your account not working for you? Here’s a helpful link that will hopefully fix your problem.
