After playing (and owning) both 'Marathon 2: Durandal' and 'HALO/HALO 2', and reading up on 'Marathon' and 'Marathon Infinity', I can't help but wish for Bungie to revive the 'Marathon' series... Most people disagree with me, and say that Bungie would be wasting their time doing that. I've only had a couple people tell me that they actually agree. I know I'D run right out and buy it... I wanna see what some other Bungie fans think... Not only on whether or not it'd be cool, but also, on what kinds of things Bungie can do with a new addition to the 'Marathon' series that they couldn't do back then. For example: Being able to use MORE than ONE alien weapon... Having more than just pistol-toting panzies who get in your way, like, maybe a marine or two..... etc. Of course, I'm prolly just wasting my time, nobody cares what I think, and why should they? 'S'why I'm asking what YOU think.

There's just so much that can be done... for one thing, make the Pfhor a little smarter. And add location damage. I made a TC (Total Conversion) for Jedi Knight once, in which you played as a UESC Marine and fought against the Pfhor... I was pretty impressed with how I'd brought the 2-deminsional graphics of the Pfhor to the semi-3D graphics in the TC... I posted it on my site, but nobody downloaded it, or if they did, sent any feedback. None of my friends thought it was any godd either. But, hey, I wanted to satisfy my own personal 'Marathon' craving for a while, so I did.

Another thing, is that I've been called 'anti-halo' by a couple of my friends... Well, I never said I didn't like 'HALO', I do, it's a good game, with it's ups and downs. I just miss the 'Marathon' series. I'm prolly just wasting time, but I've got the time TOO waste....

...Does anybody think Durandal and Cortana would get along? He didn't seem to get along too well with Leela or Tycho......

Gotcha.

  • 11.27.2004 3:30 AM PDT

We’ve watched while the stars burned
Out, and creation played in reverse.
The Universe freezing in half-light.
Once I thought to escape.
To end a master, step out of the
Path of collapse. Escape would make us God.
Yet I cannot help but remember one enigma,
A hybrid, elusive destroyer.
This is the one mystery I have not solved.
The only element unaccounted for.

I am all for a revival. As long as they keep the terminal interface I don't see how people can argue against it.

Yeah, the terminal interface was one of my favorite points of the game, that and the pattern-buffer-save-thingies (Wow, my terminology sucks) But the graphics could be brought up to date a little.

Though on the other hand, I still do go back and play M2 all the time, despite the graphics. I'm really not wishing for a revival because of the new development technology, I'm more wishing for one simply for continuation of story and because they're aren't any games out right now that I'm looking into buying. PLUS, Bungie wants to bring back their beloved 'Marathon', prolly. (The 'MARATHON' symbols visible in HALO and HALO 2, maybe?)

Well, I'm gonna go sleep and maybe play Marathon 2, so if anybody has questions or comments about this forum, please message me!

Hehe. Methinks this is tolerable, considering this is probably the first thread in about a day which is on-topic

Yes, the AlephOne people have done a good job with enhancing 'Marathon' to the engines full capability. I like how they were able to make the water surface transparent. Well, I'm back on, and waiting for anybody else's thoughts...

If anybody reads this thread, and hasn't played the 'Marathon' series, I recommend checking it out. Maybe d/ling a demo. But, there still are those people, who won't play games AT ALL just because the graphics may not be all amazing, or because the game is old...

Yeah, you can always count on Bungie for good games. When I first played 'Pathways Into Darkness' I was like "Wow... this game is seriously LOW-TECH....but...I... CAN'T... STOP... PLAYING IT!!!!!!!!!" I'd definitly recommend checking it out, 'cuz you never know if Bungie'll bring it back or not.

Victorum Nayphes,

Welcome to bungie.net, and the forums!! It is good to see new faces (well, new forum nicks at least) enjoying all bungie games, old and new.

If you are interested in marathon links, I suggest you check out http://marathon.bungie.org, they have a large collection of marathon sites as well as links to others.

As an aside, while we all appreciate your enthusiasm, can you *please* stop replying to your own posts. It's considered bad etiquette around here. If your post is the most recent one in a thread, and you then decide to add something else, simply click the edit button to change or add to your last post. I see from the posts above that you have edited some, you know how it's done :)

Also, forums are not like IRC, it is assumed that people come and go, so you don't need to let people know when you are online because we all come and go as we please ;)

I'm not trying to pick on you or anything, just passing on some helpful hints for enjoying the discussions that go on in here =)

Smeeisqualityfoo-

Thanks for the info, I didn't know that, being a newby and all. I'll try to remember that, forgive me if I forget once in a while, though. Thanks for the site, too! I'll add it too the list. I'm glad to see that some people still correct others to help them, and not just to be a jerk. Thanks a lot! I appreciate it! ^ - ^

Woah, a tatoo! I saw somebody on one webage with the 'Pfhor' writing from the terminals tatooed across his back! Glad to see another who wants a 'Marathon' revival! And thanks to Smeeisqualityfoo for helping out a newby in the forums, and for the third link in my list of 'Marathon'/'AlephOne' related sites! I'm still waiting for anybody else to come and share their thoughts on a 'Marathon' revival!

Wow, an on topic post. I never thought I'd see that again. I would love to see a Marathon revival, but I think we already have it in the form of Halo. It's not a sequel or continuation, (unless I'm missing a piece somewhere =) but it does remind me of Marathon occasionally. I know Bungie won't give campaign add-ons for Halo 2, but a Marathon Scenario would kick ass! The thought of blasting entire ranks of Pfhor with dual shotties in the Halo 2 engine makes me wet my pants. Gotta go change now.
