Hello everyone, I'm Clairvoyant and I've decided to make a post about bad threads, and I have a guide at the bottom to making good ones. So enjoy.
1. Posts Titled "Hey Check Out This Idea!!!!" Or "Dude this Weapon would be so awsome!!!" even "This will improve life so much!".
Alright first things first, It really makes me mad when people make threads about there "Brand new, super cool idea". Listen people, its most likely been thought of before, so don't expect it to get far. Use the search function, and stop clogging our front page with useless crap that'll go away in less then a minute. It just really frusturates me that when I'm trying to read an interesting topic, and then I switch over to another, then back, but then I realize that its in like the 3rd page, all becuase of this crap.
2. Discussion of New Game Content/Weekly Update/ Podcast/ Random World Event. This is sometimes worse then the above. Great, new content, but seroiusly people, I think 1-2 topics is enough, not 20. When we know something new is about to come out, don't make it a race to see who can post the first topic about it in the forums. Also, when you do post topics like this in the forum, don't make your first post "Discuss" or some other variant. If you think you found something new, and no one else has posted it on the front page, use the search function. That will solve almost every question, so stop being a lazy ass.
3. Spammers. Rick Rolls, Flat out spams, and the others. Wow, your funny. Ok, you've had your laugh, now go into your little hole and cry. All you other idiots who post in these threads flaming the OP, yea well I've got news for you, Your just playing his game. Come on, even A Bungie Staff member ( Lukems ) told you all to not, but hell, you just go on right ahead and do it.
4. Flaming threads. Flaming a person, flaming an idea, flaming bungie, flaming new content, its all the same. Stop posting it, its spam, and over-all, no-one cares. You might think your crying will get you somewere, but hell, it just gets you flamed right back. Bungie knows what it's doing, so just becuase you don't like some little thing doesn't mean they're going to rewrite the whole game just for you.
5. Petition Threads. "Hey guys, lets make a giant list, and maybe bungie will do what we!" Wronge. All its getting you is a locked thread and possibly a Quite funny Ninja comment.
6. Apology Threads. "I'm really, really, really, really sorry about ___" If thats what your thread looks like. Well you can just Alt+F4. You fail in other words, apology's are not in any of these forums.
7. Threads just about you."Yea I really hate the ___" Ok great, thanks for the update. Go stick it in your blog, becuase no one cares here.
Posting in any of these threads is almost worse then making them, as its just bumping it. And when I say all of this, I speak for everyone, as I know I'm not the only one whos ticked off about these things.
Ok, heres some unwanted post types:
1. If you try to pick fights in threads, well I've got news for you, your not tough. This is the internet, fighting on the internet is like participating in the special olympics, even if you win, your still retarded.
2. Don't be a smartass. You might think your funny. You're not. Stay on topic.
3. If its your word against 3 other members, you lose. Your most likely not right, unless you have proof.
4. Never, EVER, target a group of people when making a post or a thread, it makes you seem rascist, and if a Ninja see's it, you might get a ban, depending on how your post was worded. Examples of groups would be: There Race, Skin Color, Age, Country, bla bla bla...
5. A whole thread in Caps is not cool. It does not make you important. All it does is hurt our eyes and give us another reason to flame you ( Even though we shouldn't....).
6. You don't have a freedom of speech here. You either follow the rules or get out. If you don't believe me, go read the contract you signed when you joined here.
A Guide To a Good Thread:
The very first thing you should know is that you MUST put some thought into your thread. Think it over before posting. Ask yourself these questions:
-Was this ever posted before? (No)
-Is this in the right forum? (Yes)
-Have I used the search function just incase? (Yes)
-Will this break any rules? (No)
-Is this thread on topic? ([i]Yes)
-Will I have enough time for this? (5-10 minutes) ([i]Yes)
-Am I going to Half-Ass this thread? (No)
If you've asked all these, and answered them correctly, then you may begin.
-Give it a good title. Don't make it in all caps, or do this: !!!!!1!!1!!!!!1!!!111!!. Your an idiot if you do. Above all, make it describe your topic.
-If your going to post about a spoiler, tell us in the title.
-Ideas should be described, events should be summarized so we all know what is happening. At least a paragraph.
-Gives us your opinion on it. Don't post just to post it, that'll never get you any where, well apart from page 50+. At least a paragraph.
-Use Proper grammer, Check your spelling, use periods and comma's, I know this is sounding like an english class but if you don't do all this, people think of you as a 10 year old with some dumb idea.
-Your thread Should have at least 500 "Characters". Any less and you got your self a failure of a thread. (This threads 6850 Characters)
-Don't make threads with the intention of getting it stickied. Thats not what you post for.
-If you have something really important in your thread, don't make it in all caps. Make it bold or underlined or italic. Or heck, all of them.
Follow these guidelines and you'll have yourself a good conversation of a thread. Though you could do it your way, this is just my opinion.
A Guide To a Good Post:
- Don't Degrade yourself. If you see a fight going on in a thread, don't join in by making a post and making fun of person. Simply leave the thread, or if its that bad, send a ninja a pm. Trust me, it works.
-Stay on topic. Even if everyone else is talking about purple hippos instead of how mc is getting to earth, you make sure you answer the question. If you cant, leave. It's as simple as that.
-Don't double or triple post, edit your post and insert it into there. The only reason I see yo double or triple posting is when the OP s bumping his thread, but I don't know if thats even allowed. i certainly Know he can't just say "Bump" though.
-A good post should not be 1 word. If the OP wanted Yes or No answer's, he'd make a poll. I'd say a post should be at least 10 words.
-Don't rush your posts, making grammer mistakes and mispelling words. It makes you look like your 10 and people flame you.
Well, comment back to me on this, and if you have any suggestions, don't hesitate to tell.
