My thumbsticks will be your Doom.... sorry 'bout that.
My Stats

So that makes 8, right? perfect for my fantasy of an unlockable 8player co-op level.

Wow that was pretty concise Spartan29. i didn't know HBO had that sort of stuff. We could use a little of the facts laid out here on New Mombasa.

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

All of Spartan 00029's information is true except one thing: The 3 Spartans away on other missions.

SPOILERS!!!!!!!!

Those 3 had to have been back at Reach at the time of the attack (which happened several days AFTER Dr. Halsey made her statement that they were away on missions) for a few reasons:
1.) The Spartan's mission to infiltrate Covenant space and capture a Prophet was a mission for all the Spartans. I just think it'd be something they'd all have to be involved in.

2.) The math. 33 Spartans, including Master Chief John-117 survived the Augmentation Procedure (excluding Fhajaad, Rene, and the others that survived but are unable to continue on as soldiers). Sam dies in 2525, and the number is knocked down to 32. Between 2525 and 2552, 2 more Spartans die, and one was critically wounded, and unable to continue on as a soldier (the wounded one puts a discrepency in this math, just so you know), so the number of battle-capable spartans is knocked down to 29. Here's the discrepency: there were 30 Spartans who went to battle at the attack on Reach, not 29. That 30 was split up into 27 and 3 (Fred and his crew, and the Chief and his team of 2 others). With this math, there cannot be 3 more that we haven't heard from, since it would make the number of battle-capable Spartans immediately after Augmentation greater than 33...

At Reach, James gets lost in space (presumeably dead), and Linda becomes clinically dead (there goes good ole' Chief's blue team).

Also, in the beginning of Read Team's mission, they are forced to jump out of their Pelican a bit prematurely. When they land (at a near-sonic speed), 4 die, and their number is knocked down to 23. They split up soon after, and Kelly, Fred, and Joshua go after a Covenant ship (my second favorite sequence in the whole Halo storyline), and Joshua dies... the number is now 22. Reach gets semi-glassed, and all but Kelly, Fred, Vihn, Li, Anton, Isaac, Will, and Grace (hehe, Will and Grace) get killed during a ground assault on the Orbital Gun Generator Facilities.

The total live Spartan number is now 9.

Halo's events happen in the "future", John finds survivors (Sgt. Johnson, Polaski, Lt. Haverson, and an ODST) and after that, John somehow gets knocked back into "soon after Fall of Reach time (a few days to a week)."

Fred's crew of 5 (Li, Anton, and Grace were not with him), reunited with Dr. Halsey, find secret underground Forerunner (presumeably) facilities on Reach (which houses a fate-, time-, and space-altering super-crystal), and almost get completely overrun by the Covenant, during which Isaac and Vihn sadly go "missing" (probably dead, but bodies not found). The live Spartan number is now 7.

The Chief gets back to Reach, and is reunited with Li, Anton, and Grace, and also meets Vice Admiral something-or-other.

The Chief gets to the Crystal Room, finds Fred's Crew and Dr. Halsey with the Crystal, saves them, and Kelly gets badly wounded.

The team of 7 live ones becomes 8 when Halsey revives Linda.

During an emergency repair mission Li and Anton are killed by a plasma torpedoe (ship-based weapon's fire), all other Spartans on the mission are wounded rather minorly (as far as Spartans go). Polaski also gets killed by the torpedoe, as well as several sabotauging Covenant bastards. The live Spartan number is now 6.

The ODST gets himself killed when he destroys that bad, mean, pretty-looking Crystal.

Dr. Halsey fixes Kelly up a little bit, and then sedates her and kidnaps her, stealing a Pirate's Chiroptera-class, slipstream-capable ship (spelling on Chiroptera, or even the word itself, may be slightly off), and takes Kelly on a secret mission to God-Knows-Where.

The Spartans launch a "First Strike" on the Unyielding Hierophant, a Covenant Space Station where 500+ ships are gathering for an assault on Earth, and blow it up, as well as the ships (with the help of the Vice Admiral and Lt. Haverson). Grace is killed by Brutes, and the Vice Admiral and Haverson die as well. The live Spartan number is 5.

Halo 2 happens.

There could be more Spartans left, since its not stated that they're actually dead (no bodies found), but its unlikely.

I know you are right, as am I. I specifically stated all BUT those you listed were killed on the ground assault. I did not say they died. Reread my post. I'm surprised you didn't point out Fred as well, since you made that reading mistake (no offense).

No hard feelings. I debated on whether I should've reworded that when I typed it... I think I should have. I might've made that mistake myself. In fact, I rechecked that sentence several times to make sure it was right... but I can see how some would make a mistake like that... I make them in reading as well. Human imperfection :-D.

*sigh* Yes human imperfection, on both of us. Maybe that is why the Covenant want us destroyed. We are so imperfect compared to them.

Yeah... But at least we're relatively smarter than them, and not spoiled little brats (they may be more advanced, but they're adaptive rather than innovitive, and their tactics and scientific understanding/capability are not as good as ours (the Engineers may be able to fix and learn about things quickly, but they don't really make them better)). Give us the time to become as advanced as they are in Halo, and we could kick their asses from here to Kingdom Come.

The Covenant may have the capability to obtain our tactical expertise and understanding and what-not, or even become better than us (comparatively), but because of their copy-cat ways, they're acting stupid. "Act stupid long enough and you become stupid."
