Subject: Why, if you play swat, people assume you have no skill in halo???

Swat is my favourite game type and yet because i play it people tell me it takes absolutely no skill whatsoever...

who came up with this ridiculous theory???? Even the description of the gametype says and i quote "put your skills to the test in this...."

Tell me why you hate/love playing swat or why people think it takes no skill

I like swat, I can only guess why people say it takes no skill. My guess would be that it is because all you have to do is fire one burst and then the person is dead, you don't have to keep shooting or aiming for that matter. Thats my best guess.

people think it takes no skill because they get their arse's raped in it because they dont act like a team.

besides, the version of swat I made (before I even knew it was an online playlist because I didnt have XBL at the time) is much better, it has all human weapons including the sniper rifle and grenades, just no rocket launcher, and it was much better then the Bungie version.

also, ill have to find it. I got a kill frenzy in a 4v4 swat game where my entire team quit, leaving my alone with 4 enemies :| i won 50-20 :O

SWAT is a fun game, I enjoy it, but it actually takes more skill to play regular games with shields.

  • 08.15.2007 4:22 AM PDT

I'm not a swat fan. But I think the problem is that swat settings, while they may be fun, make the game very unlike Halo. It's very easy to get multiple kills with ease. It may be a fun game but it's not really Halo.

In used to play Halo 2 on XBC, and whenever I would play shields, some idiot would come in and say that I suck because I play with shields, GO BACK TO COUNTERSTRIKE! That is all I would say.

I like it best because you all have the same weaponj and the same which means who can shoot fastest and aim the head. In Halo 2 thats the only way to show skill. Otherwise its best weapon.

Explosions of flavour
Check the ill-culinary behaviour

i'd rather play counter strike than Halo Swat as i don't see the point.
the whole shield system is what balances the gameplay!

i don't agree with it being a noob game type though, i just feel it's very un-halo

Take it from this guy people, he knows what he's talking about.

People generally assume that SWAT takes no skill because the most used strategy in SWAT is to camp. Since it only takes one shot to the head, there is no strafing or setting up, grenades and power weapons control dont come into play and neither does Overshield/Camo. Setups arent particularly effective either.

In short, SWAT is basically playing a team game that requires no teamwork whatsoever. That being said, Ill play SWAT every now and then just to get my focus and headshots ready for MLG or matchmaking. I treat it more as a warmup though.

people probably think that for:
1) they suck even WORSE

2) swat is unranked, so yuo dont get any player rankings for that game (you probably dont have any at all if swat is the only game you play)

if you look next to each game description it will say idf it is ranked or unranked. but i have no idea why they act that way other wise.

I like SWAT once in a while, but mostly I just use it as a warm-up or a nightcap. It does take skill... not like die hard skill, but it test your reactions. If your not the first one shooting, chances are you're gonna lose. However, I prefer normal Halo with shields. It's just more fun to me.

That being said, if someone's favorite game in Halo is SWAT, I can't knock them about skill, but I can see why some would say that. Because it isn't ranked, there's no way to "measure" progress. Also, anyone can play. I'll bring people online in SWAT who rarely ever play, and many others do as well. Finally, its just a free for all with no ranking so really bad people mix in with really good ones. I'm a level 14 in TS, best I've ever done is a running riot, but in SWAT, I am consistantly the top 1-2. Just not enough hard challeng for me. So While I don't knock SWAT players, I can see why trolls would.

swat is a great game and were fortunate that bungie created it. it may not be the hardest to get kills somtimes, but still it causes you to think and to out smart the other team like in other game types. it also helps you to focus more on the head , which in other game types you need to do to get a fast kill. i usually play it for acouple games if im doing bad in slayer or somthing. for me just getting doing good in someother game and getting a ton of kills really helps me to relax and do better in the other games. it would be cool if swat were ranked tho, but i can see bungies reason for it not being

Since a lot of the elements from a normal game with shields are left out of SWAT, such as many of the weapons and strategies for wearing down and recovering shields, etc, I wouldn't call it a complete game by any means. SWAT does require skill but since it really is a simplified scenario, there are many skills which are not needed, such as proper grenading or knowing all the weapon spawn locations. Instead, more emphasis is put into raw skills such as aiming, anticipation, awareness, as well as reaction speeds which to me are the bread-and-butter of any FPS. SWAT is less of a Halo game and more of a Ghost Recon type game.

I do feel it's a great game for getting into the habit of aiming for the head in most cases. Personally, I feel that playing SWAT will improve your mid to long range BR skills as well as your overall Halo and even FPS gameplay.

The most satisfying thing in SWAT is when someone shoots you in the back and can't get a headshot on you from behind, so you quick pull a 180 and nail him in the face. An unshielded player can still take quite a few BR blasts in the back (non-headshots) before dying. I do find it to be a lot like team snipers if not a little sloppier. Host has a huge advantage too.

Please no group invites... I only play MLG customs and don't spend my time wasting it on groups, clans or any other internet social crap.

I love to play SWAT drunk with a few buddies late at night.

The end of the games always turn into the other team trash talking about us having host or getting lucky. I get to play so many 2 vs 2s against people that are just filled with trash. SWAT is mildly skilled, but has a lot to do with HOST. If you get SWAT on anything larger then Lockout, the host team should win, EVEN IF the other team has better team work.

I've gotten numerous Killtac+ when carrier host <-- one reason I stopped playing SWAT was because of how big host makes a difference. You can beat a host on a team game that doesn't involve 1 shot kills, much easier.

SWAT is pretty much the only thing i play now. You always have to keep covered or youll die. Its very exciting. Also it was the first place i got a killtacular.

It doesn't feel like Halo at all. You can get many kills and many glorious medals because the respawn times are faster. Just because you are good at Team Swat doesn't mean you are good at Halo, on the other hand, if you are good in any other playlist you will definitely be good in Team Swat.
