I'm sure no offense is intended. It's just lack of experience. Americans are more used to hearing the British accent, and the Aussie accent is similar. I've worked with several Aussies and would still only nail the nationality about 70% of the time. Next time it happens, just roll your eyes and remember to speak very slowly for us Yanks. ;o)

I can usually tell the difference, but I can understand were others could'nt. Partially because the headsets will occasionally give crappy reception. Other than that there are just stupid people.

I can tell the difference between East Coast, Southern, and Midwest accents, but I still couldn't tell you the difference between European and Australian.

I'm from NZ.

I was playing with a Taiwanese friend and a bunch of American idiots (I know not all americans are idiots but most of the racist,/stupid smack talking I hear comes from an American accent you do the maths) kept on going on with stupid comments of racist slurs against the British (me) and Mexicans (my Asian friend).

Its due to narrow mindedness and a lack of world experience,.the world consists of North America, Mexicans, C..C...Canada, England, russia, China, Iraq and theres that crocodile hunter whatshisname you know killed by that like fish thing.

I lived in the states for 5 years the best I heard was on a plane "you have an acent where are you from?" "New Zealand" "Oh.......is that somewhere by New England?". astounding

I don't have a problem identifying the accents ether.

KOD

P.S. We beat them in that game 2 against 4 and yet they still run their mouths you would think shame would make em' stop.

Why do Americans think that australians sound like the british......im australian myself and when people are bagging me they always assume im british....im just wondering....do you really think we sound that alike because i can tell straight away the difference between an american accent, a british accent and an australian accent.....

WHY CAN'T YOU????
I would suggest posting this topic in the Off Topic: The Flood forum here because it does not directly relate to Halo 2 discussion.

What, you automatically think that since all Americans think that just because some said that? That's what bothers me the most. People see one American say something, and then they think our whole country is like that. Well, let me enlighten you: I can tell the difference between Australians and British.

I am actually getting pretty tired of being called British also. I politely corrwct the incorrect person and I am then sworn at and then told I am british anyway because we were colonised by brits. Well I just like to respond by pointing out that America was colonised by British and French.

Nothing worse than the French.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

As quite a few people in this topic have already mentioned, many young Americans can't differentiate accents. They hear an accent that's not an American dialect, they think its a British accent (I blame the James Bond movies). I can tell the difference between Australian accents and English accents, but I've had more experience with people from both countries than most 13 year old Americans have.

I have to admit though, I can't distinguish the difference between Australian accents and NZ accents. I guess I need to play with you guys more.

Anyway, this is off topic in this forum, so I'm locking it.
