That's neat and all, but the info is all 'Real life' info. Sure, I'd find it interesting if I knew something about guns, but it's all just meaningless facts. And weren't all these guns in the beta? (I would have participated in the beta but I didn't have a 360 then).

Can someone please tell me how these guns compare to halo 1 and 2?

Also, the graphics.... these guns look like the same polygon models as in halo 1, with a very slight upgrade (Except the grenade). Come on, it's been 7 years! Also, the pistol looks bland and scratched up; the halo 1 pistol was reflective chrome with smoother lines...

Are you blind? I suggest you stop filling interesting forums like these with such abusive tripe when you clearly have no idea what you are talking about or where you are sourcing these claims from. Have you played Halo 1? Do you know what a Spartan is? The polygon models are clearly much more detailed in the Halo 3 version, as well as better normal and specular mapping shaders, not to mention the use of HDR FBO's. Get a grip.

I suggest you also change your user name, not only did you manage to misspell "master", you also didn't notice that you were insulting yourself within it. Goodbye, I look forward to not seeing more posts by you, Novumber

To play or not to play....

Nice update. I like the information and the textures etc. Those weapons look familar yet shiny new at the same time. Most people expected to see these weapons (to those who are crying out about nothing new *get a life) and it is good to see how great the weapons will look. As *expected* Bungie has given us a little flavour on the originals while nothing really new as such these weapons are sure looking good :) . It is a bit like have your favourite pair of shoes brand new again :))) (oh well you get the idea *shrug*).

Concidering how much more intelligent they make the ai sound in halo 3, compared to halo 2 and one, i think silenced weapons would be very usefull. For the campain mode, you could sneak around and rather then having to melee grunts, and the like, you could just drop them with the silenced smg. And in mutiplayer it could be somewhat helpfull if you were playing a match with the radars off.

Ammo varriants could be easily added to the game, just have them be like grenades. If you pick up a different kind it shows up on the hud in one of the corners, then all you do is switch between them like a reload, possibly by holding down the reload button?

Just some ideas....

ps. Seeing how much they have added to this game, forge, flame throwers and new grenades, new levels, 3 new campaign characters, a bunch of new vehicles including the elephant!, etc.... these two weapon variants would be easy for them. And for them to put out an update like this, so late in the game, it has to have some sort of meaning.

“I believe that the sound of racking the pump of a shotgun is universally recognized as ‘kiss your ass goodbye’.” 8/15/2007 bungie update... love this line

why show us the most common guns in halo2/3?? why not the AR, or fuel rod, something more interesting and more cool to look at.....
god...sometime your imaginations just crap out on your guys.....

The pistol has a max range of 152.2 ft. The shotty has a max range of 131 ft. What??? Doesn't really make sense to me.

the bullet can go that far w/out falling...its not gunna be on target its gunna be way off, but it can go that far

i am surprised to find that no one else has mentioned anything about the 2x-scope. i have officially peed my pantaloons.
what, for the pistol? if so, then you may be disappointed. the scope mentioned there was for other variants of the M6 series handguns (the B and D models iirc). And those may not be in the game.

To everyone else wondering why background information even matters when it won't be used in-game... it can still be used (and has been used) in other halo media, and may yet still appear in other halo games, like halo wars for instance. It's all in the Halo Bible so that people can refer to it to see what is available for use at any point in time for whatever reason. The only reason these past two games that we've been stuck with a limited arsenal is because the ammunition would be available for use by each and every person. If you were to run out of ammo, wouldn't you rather have your buddies toss you what they have instead of needing to find another weapon because everyone's carrying their own unique -blam!-??? inconvenient during such crises. (Although it was mentioned in Halo: The Flood that the Spartans' Weapons Locker was destroyed, so some specialty weps WERE indeed at one time available... until PoA crashed at any rate.). I'm certain there must be an easier way to convey my point, but bloody hell if I can think of it just now.

Too much gravy, not enough fish as they say.

Wow... Like I said on other forums... Wow. A pistol used for 140 years plus, that is damn well sad. And I did say sad. For a intersteller they are pretty much outdated like some third world country. Heck, they should just arm their troops with AK-47s and send them to fight. I see it as the United States still using the bolt action rifles from World War I as standard issue. I've let the UNSC slide with somethings when it came to the Halo Universe, their medicine, their technology, their unrealitic weapons, and their vehicles -which can be included in their vehicles but c'mon, not one insteller "empire" would keep a weapon that long, bigger and better things would have to come along. Bungie... sorry but in this update... your Halo Bible just stumbled.

Great... I most likely sturred up a hornet's nest of flamers. *Get's M1 Garand* Bring it.

Did you know that the M7/Caseless SMG fired 900 rnds/min? Did you know that it would cost cR 1484 to replace? I didn't think so. And don't reply saying something like "N00b, I don't even care -blam!-" because if you don't, then you shouldn't be posting in these forums in the first place. Take your atitude and your unpronouncable name elsewhere.

Are you frickin' kidding me? The M1911 that old piece of junk, and yes I said junk is a accident waiting to happen, my RoTC commanders told me many tales of that gun jamming, or pulling a stovepipe *The round failing to eject from the chamber* and causing them to hastly reload their primary weapon where as it could've cost them their lives. They even called it a piece of junk. And the M1911 has gotten upgrades over the years so considering the fact it isn't the same weapon as it was sixty years ago, considering that the article doesn't make it sound like the UNSC pistol had gotten upgrades so I would still like to see why in the world are they still using a pistol that is 140 years old. A 140 years is a very long time, and I doubt any compentent military would keep a weapon around that long... No wonder the UNSC is losing the war.

Does it matter? At the end of humanity, the cost of weapon is pretty much worthless, the workers making the goddamn weapons would either do that or pick up a weapon and fight. And the 900 rnds/min is somewhere, I've seen it before. I'm not saying the update is worthless but the question is, was it really needed?

hey im mil. myself and in my ole ROTC 4 years ago my higher ups said they loved now then modern day pea shooters. weapons jam it happens and ive yet to see a game that realistic cept maybe parts of GOW. and of course the 1911 wasnt the greatest when it 1st came around but it was a solid design, and since the UNSC is so far ahead in the future im sure they started with a much more solid design then even the 1911 thus giving it a long life. if it aint broke why fix it? it still is a fine tool for taking away life. and i think the varients could be considered upgrades.

Well if you consider the ain't broke, why fix it logic, we would still be using Muskets because it was an effective weapon and it did it's job rather well. The point is, is that if you can better -do it. That's why America is a Superpower today (yes I know I'm getting off topic), because they view it as so. What does do? Okay, can we make it better. Yes? How so. The "Aint broke why fix it" logic is obsolete. It's more like, it's old, let's make something new and ten times better. And then it's more like a matter of opinion, my Commanders said it was junk, yours said it was good.

Agreed, but I thought the grenade, while the model was updated, the texture is still incredibly low-res.

Also, if the SMG uses caseless ammo, why is there an ejection port?
