i have halo 2 and i installed it both xp and vista, but when i run it in vista the graphics are all messed up. the background is bleeding into the foreground, but when i run the game in xp it runs perfect like it was meant to ran on windows xp. i have tried reinstalling the game, reinstalling windows vista and tried over 40 different video card drivers. my system is as fallowed:

Windows XP/Vista
Intel P4 3.0 HT X2
2 GB of Ram
nVidia Geforce 7600 GS 512

i will post a screenshot of what happens to the game while in vista.

None of the images are 'found', but thanks for the try anyways. By the way, I think the reason is your Processor. Unlike most people, I run at 64 bit. Are you running at 32?

  • 08.15.2007 5:49 PM PDT

Hey Beo I have an AMD 64 (not an X2 tho)
I'm on the 32 bit windows vista, Would I get any benifits if I switched to 64?

  • 08.15.2007 5:51 PM PDT

Slaying noobs since 2007.

Not really, just better resolution and more memory support.
And to the OP, try lowering the settings.

I run with your same exact Processor, that is, if AMD Anthlon AMD 64 +3200. I run it at 64bit., and Halo 2 works smooth perfect for me. In combo with GeForce 6800 XFX.

[EDIT]

I think turning it up to 64 bit. should do the job. I played fine in Home Basic, and now with Business, it still works fine.

It's a classic case of messed up vertex shaders, whether your card is overheating, bad video card drivers or corrupted files they would all do it.

it's a brand new video and i have tried over 40 different drivers and still got all the same crap. no the video card is not overheating, no the drivers are not corrupted. i just think it is vista because like i said i can play halo 2 in windows xp and play it fine like it was meant to play on xp. that is the only game i have been getting trouble with in vista.

really i can bash windows vista on how incompatible it is with programs i need to run and for hardware that it will not support, then there is the fact that vista is just isn't ready to be on the market.

Well it seems like something about your system doesn't like vista. Or maybe I am doing something WRONG with vista because my game DOES work. If I was doing everything RIGHT then it should be broken like yours.

the thing is i can play it but the rendering is screwed on it, but i am thinking it is the dx10 that is doing this. i have halo 2 installed on xp with dx9c and i am not gatting no problems with it. my video card is nvidia geforce 7600 gs 512. so i know it is not my video card having this problem so i am leaning to vista and dx10.

No, because if it doesn't work, it's not "vista ready".

Did you try these drivers yet?
http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1700
And did you install using the TRAY & PLAY feature? If so then reinstall the game using the Customize Game install option instead.

  • 08.15.2007 10:09 PM PDT

true the video card is compatible with vista but its not DX10 compatible only the 8 series and the ATi HD 2 series.
Also H2V runs on DX9 not 10. Are you overclocking it? cometimes its messes things up. what installation did you do? the tray install or the install and play later install? JW
