Reinstall Halo 2 and then DON'T install the hacks to make campaign mode work on XP and then come back for more help if that doesn't work. Don't put down Vista when your hacked copy of the game isn't working right.

Slaying noobs since 2007.

Turn off all programs non-essential for the OS and game to operate, and reinstall the drivers for you card, and try going into the game, put the settings on low, and try playing it. Please post back after doing what I have said with the results, and what has or has not changed.

it's all been done, it's a clean os install. the drivers i have installed from the first vista drivers to the latest vista drivers.nothing runs in the background but windows. and i have changed the settings in the game many many many times. i have done everything you all are thinking of. the screenshots i have posted are off current install of vista and the game.

You say you have two Halo 2 discs? One compatible with xp, and the other a commercial one?

the halo 2 i have on xp was installed using the Razor1911 installer. both my copies of halo 2 are legit, both bought at wal-mart at the same time.

Have you tried both discs during the install on Vista?

dude you are so full of yourself. here is an idea how about you take your head out of your butt and listen. the 7600 gs is vista compatible, on the box for my video card it says vista compatible and also on the website. correction it says certified for windows vista.
'Full of myself' for defending Vista? That makes no sense, and by the way, your PC must suck hard, as I can run Halo 2 Vista with a 6800. Little asshat...

I don't love Vista, I just say it's pathetic that you just bash it. I bet you're not a beta tester, so don't bull-blam!- me. And if your rig can't run correctly with Vista but mine does, then it means yours sucks hard. ;)

dude you are a freaking retard, my system was designed to run 3 types of systems. so don't talk crap about something you do not know. so if you want to keep this up go for it. from this point on i will be ignoring everything you say from here on because you are not helping me with halo 2's problem.

Talk about retards. "Made for 3 different systems". Enough bull-blam!-. I won't argue either then.

ALRIGHT QUIT FLAMING EACH OTHER!

Sigh...

take windows xp out of your hdd and reinstall halo 2 sometimes 2 os-es(or whatever you says os in plural) conflict with each other. see if that solves it.

edit: wipe your hdd clean of anything doing with windows xp.
edit again: or at least move it to a different hdd and then disconnect the hdd from your computer.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

ARGH. nevermind.

Why don't you at least try a different video card because every one of your problems that you claim exist with all copies of H2V and all copies of vista arent true at all.

i will do that but before i do i will say this again. when i play halo 2 on xp i get perfect quality. when i play on vista i get crappy quality and bleeding background.

but i might have found the problem, i reinstalled vista and noticed something when i was looking at dxdiag. i noticed that the approx. memory for the display was greater then my card. i think vista is trying to overclock my video card and thats where i am having problems. since i do not overclock. i need to figure out how to clock it at the right speed so it does not kill my video card.

here you can download rivatuner you can have it to keep the normal speeds. you can even control the fan speed. it works with vista and xp. i even use it.

I use a 7600 GS and I don't get this problem. Just lots of other ones which prevent me from playing :)

No, That's just shared memory. You see, Vista gives a little more memory for your graphics card so that it'll function better - It's not bad at all...
The graphics Problem reminds me of the corruption that I got in Halo 1 often when a model went wrong ingame...
And it would help if you'd post a DxDiag, just not all of it, only from the beginning to your Sound device.

ok it is official, windows vista is overclocking and overheating my video cards, just to prove a point to you people thinking i am just here to rag on vista. i decided to install another video card. i installed a nvidia geforce 6600 gt 256mb and windows vista. so i go into dxdiag and the approx. memory was at 513, and with my nvidia geforce 7600 gs 512 it shows up at almost 1gb of memory. so i know it is not my rig but vista overclocking my cards. also when i had the 6600 installed the video card got very hot and so does my 7600. but in xp nothing like that happens. i have installed many different versions of vista and it all comes out the same. i might end up installing an earlier version of vista beta or try and use server 2008 to play halo 2.

Are you sure it's not because you have installed some strange driver? Both my 6800 GT and 8800 GTX never had problems with overheating because of vista. Try creating more airflow in your case.

i have the side of the case off so i can monitor my video cards. so it is getting alot of air flow.

Doesnt always mean it runs cooler.

Mine runs about 5-10c warmer with the cover off, but thats without the 120MM fan blowing on the CPU.

Sounds like overheating or lack of power from the CPU.
