Well his level geometry is fine so it's obviously his video card whether it's in software or hardware thats what is messed up. kthx.

Contradictory posts are always fun to read...

As I said before you are just rambling on with big words trying to sound intelligent.

Like what am I supposed to say? As a person who has worked with the industry class modeling programs with, albeit, limited experience. I tend to remember what the proper terms were, and what I was taught. Oh sure, you can critique my improper use of 'tangent' rather than 'tandem', it's a mistake, yes, and I do know the difference between the two. Because when you work with Autodesk Maya for a year, you tend to use tangent ratios with triangles quite often, believe me... >_>

Anyway, saving face for that blunder. I still must disagree with your analysis of distressed vertex shaders being the culprit of his artifacts. I maintain my belief that the vertices of the mesh are being corrupted, and not the fault of a function program that you so heartily believe.

Ok...
darthbob and staticx576, take your fight somewhere else, this is NOT the time nor the place and if a mod would see this, then they would lock it immediately, I know I would...

Back on topic...
What component was it that isn't Vista ready then? And what driver didn't install correctly?
And when I said post a dxdiag, I meant the text file - just see the sticky on how to do it...

I wouldn't call it a 'fight', as much as I'd call it a discussion.

my computer stays cold when running due to the fans. plus i keep an external fan blowing out the heat from the case. and kinda yes when it is in vista. i can touch it and burn myself on the heatsink.
Replace your fan, and clean the whole PC through and fro. I open up and clean mine every 6 months. When you turn it on, get your Processor running at 64 bit. just for the kicks. Maybe it'll do the job. Does for me, with a GeForce 6800 XFX.
Iclean mine every month. Really dusty.

Go get some pics of temps or I will not believe that your computer is epicly cool

Pics or stfu

i clean my system every other week to keep crap from getting into it and for you telling me to stfu here is something you might want to look at

Temp Screenshot

i run a clean computer and my house is also cold as hell so if you still want to go at it then go for it and i will just ignore you like that other tard

man are you dince, everything you all are saying i have already done or is wrong. if you can think of anything let me know and i will tell you if i have done it or not that is how it works. not to come and flame people or people flaming me because i do not like vista and i am having trouble with it. i am just simply here to get help and thats it. but no people have to come and say i am an asshat because i do not like vista and blah blah. i just want help and not get trashed talked.

OK I have read the whole thread 1st off. Just because a videocard is brand new, doesn't mean it isn't -blam!- messed up. When I bought my 7900gtx a year and a hald ago I had to rma it a day afterwards because I was artifacting, much like yours it was only doing it in certain situations. Mine being whenever I played FEAR.

Now I gather you have a limited understanding of videocards and such(seeing as you honestly believe you have a nice pc) so I'll try to explain this the best I can.

You say that your idle temp in xp is low but in vista it's high. Well the reason your getting higher temps in vista is because vista is running aero on top of your gaming. Your idle temp is high in Vista because your gpu is actualy being used just to run the desktop. So under vista your card is always in 3d mode (which make the card use 3d clockspeeds) in 2d(xp) it's in 2d mode using the low 2d clock speeds. So in Vista you go and play halo and your card is already way to hot because it's been running 3dclocks the whole time before you go into the game. You need to RMA your card.

And for the record 7600gs sucks balls. You should have at least bought the gt version.

Start listening to people and quit being a -blam!- moron dismissing peoples advice who obviously know more about computers(your computer even) than you do.

now see that is something i can do i have yet to do that. oh and ITSTHINKING i am not dismissing peoples advice it is that i have already done that. plus i have another video card which i tried and still got the same problem. i have yet to disable the aero. so i will try that when i go back into vista. i can not get a 7900gt. i am running in agp mode not pci-x. the 7800 is the last to be agp on nvidia's side.

and Beowul7 he was talking to me about my gpu core temp. thanks for trying.

Actually Aero is disabled when you run a game in fullscreen.

Sorry.

True, true. I remember reading on Hardforums about how on "lower end-midrange" videocards aero can trigger 3d clock speeds to be use, and even if it were disabled during a game I thought it could be a possibility that it could have "pre heated" up the card before hand, allthough unlikely, then when the game play started. made it hotter.

Tachikoma, I'm sorry I didn't read or didn't see that you were having this same problem on a different videocard under vista as well, lemme see what I can find out for you. I apologize for being rude.

All that's left is driver issues.

The latest driver appears to work, however you may want to try older drivers. Just to make sure.

Tach, do you use driver cleaner pro before installing new drivers? If not then you need to, that could be the culprit. I once had this weird problem in halo ce where I had this weird looking artifact that was connected to whatever weapon I was using. I tried reinstalling the game and it didn't help, but new drivers fixed it if I remember correctly. but you really need to use driver cleaner pro to uninstall your drivers, then reboot and install the new ones, then reboot again.

i did a fresh install everytime i used a different driver. ok this is an update i just ordered my new cpu and motherboard, so if i still have the same problem then i know it is vista screwing me up. this is the board specs:

Intel Pentium D 3.0 Ghz
MSI PM8PM-V Motherboard

i am going to use the same video card on this new board with 2gb of memory and the rest of my hardware. but thank you all for trying to help and the ones that were bagging on me i hope you feel sorry for not listing to what i was trying to say.

  • 08.20.2007 11:14 AM PDT

if that doesn't solve your problem try this card (best), this card (better), or this card (good). the last two are $150 after all rebate and discounts and all have a limited lifetime warranty. all of them are agp too.

edit: they're very good cards

Slaying noobs since 2007.

Dead, that's what it's called. It's called bumping if you post in a dead thread. Bumping is a very serious offense. Don't do it again.

  • 09.08.2007 4:35 PM PDT

lol

  • 09.08.2007 8:44 PM PDT

Gaming Systems:
Intel Core i7 720QM (4 cores, 8 threads)
4Gb DDR3-1333mhz
1Gb AMD Radeon HD 4650
Windows 7 64bit

Xbox 360 w/ 20Gb HDD (2008 edition) & XBL Gold.

Just my penny input here:

I've seen that same artifacting in a completely different game: Unreal Tournament 2004. It is FAR more severe in that though, you can't see the screen. The diagnosis was a faulty connection between the motherboard and the graphics card. It wasn't SO faulty that nothing worked, but it caused overheating on my GPU. corruption on screen, and regular crashes. Once i replaced the motherboard, with the same graphics card, everything was fine. StaticX or whoever said "you PC is screwed up" is correct. It is.

For the record, i'm running Halo 2 Vista with medium settings in XP, low settings in Vista, both running around 20-25 fps on average. That's with a Celeron D @ 2.8Ghz (~2.4Ghz P4 in comparison), 1GB RAM and a Geforce 128Mb 6200 graphics card. I get no corruption with either XP or Vista. Running any recent drivers. Ever.

The above system was a custom build cheapy system from a company called Novatech. It's as stable as hell, with everything. Good motherboard and component quality does help ;)
