I could not find my previous post when I created this....post to the other please.

I have been having problems trying to do multiplayer on the internet.

I bypassed my Linksys router w/ VPN and it allowed me to play properly online.

I was taking the IP address from my cable modem and then getting a DHCP address from my Linksys router to my PC on my LAN. Could there be a problem using a DHCP address on my desktop and playing multiplayer on the internet? I was considering swapping out my cable modem until bypassing the router fixed the problem. Anybody have any ideas.
Thanks for your help. I prefer using DHCP addresses on my LAN.

Steve

I am using a BEFSR11 Linksys router. I am using the DHCP addressing. I don't know if the DMZ feature is involved here. I have opened up several ports on the router but it won't work yet.

Heyyo,

From my experience, you only need to open ports when hosting a game, if you're joining servers it should be ok.

The ports that need to be open are 2301, and 2302, but I just suggest openeing ports 2300-2310 cause some people have ports all over the place.

DMZ I believe is also required to host...

to get you WAN IP go to a site like http://www.whatsmyip.org/ and it should say at the top. You'll notice it's different than your DHCP IP, and the one provided by your ISP IP cause both of those are still pretty much considered Local, but not the ISP IP isin't LAN, so don't get those 2 confused.
