Yes, I've been the game on legendary. :-) Countless times. In fact, I've gotten so used to legendary, it's no longer either difficult or challenging. In fact, like many other people who've replied above, I find the lower difficulties *incredibly* boring, with "easy" being beneath my notice, even when glitch-hunting (although in co-op, my lil' bro can't keep up on legendary, so we go for normal). Having grown used to seeing shields recharge in a flash, the time it takes for shields to reload on Easy difficulty might as well threaten to kill me with old age. So like many others, I rarely (if ever) play on any other difficulty then Legendary.
The hardest level on Legendary, IMHO, is "Truth and Reconciliation". Took me bloody *ages* to survive the cargo bay, where a full 7-8 Golden elites wielding plasma swords burst from the doors and start plowing through the marines as if they're weeds under a lawn-mower. The sniper rifle was my best friend on that level, and I used it even in close quarters (against the elite swordsman, at least... when they charge, a full shots to the head is enough). But the one weapon I value above any other- sniper rifle or not, is the Plasma Pistol. With a quick trigger-finger, some players can literally exhaust an elite's shields (and oft-times, health) before the weapon overheats entirely. I'm one of them- I rely on the plasma pistol so much, it's rare for me to go through a level on *any* difficulty without having one at hand. And let me tell you- even plasma rifles are useless if you're able to use the pistol well enough- empowered shots, or not.
Overall, I'll just say this to any other players wanting to finish the game on Legendary: Don't bother trying to hone your skill to a "master that can blitz a level on legendary without dying, guns-a-blazing". No player could ever do so, because there's more to survival skill on legendary than simple brute-strength. Covert tactics, rapid-fire blasts, silent melee attacks, careful grenade use and knowing where/when to hide and when to fight all constitute to skill on legendary. And, having learned so many of these tactics and integrated them into one's own skill with Halo, it becomes difficult to go back to playing the game on lower difficulties.
