i used to play ice hockey. one game, someone fell down in front of me cross-wise. rather than skate into him, i elected to jump over. unfortunately, in the process of coming down someone decided to cross-check me from the side. this was all away from the puck, and no penalties were called. sonsof-blam!-es. i fell on my back pretty roughly, but i didn't feel anything, so i continued playing.
next day i woke up, and couldn't move. every little motion i made caused extreme pain down my left leg. it was like someone slashing a knife down the entire length of my leg and lower back. when i finally went to a doctor a month later (yeah, i'm a dumbass tough-guy), i was told i had a herniated disk. for those that don't know, that's when one of the disks between your vertebrae bulges and squeezes against the nerves coming out of your spinal cord. i had to receive 2 epideural shots of cortizone to reduce the inflammation. that's in the spine, people. and each one i got was pretty rough since all the fluid was doing, was pushing the disk harder up against the nerves.
