Subject: Should additional moderators be hired?

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

Should additional moderators be hired to deal with the madness on the forums until Halo 3 is released?

You mean we should be getting paid for this????

Payment is already happening, although who said that payment was money? I mean you do get to ban members and lock threads... and don't forget the all important orange text. That is payment enough IMO.

Nope. Banning people and locking threads is not a payment. Quite frankly I would love to have it where we did not even need to do it. The orange text is not all that. Sometimes it can be a burden, but that is a topic on its own.

We could use couple more but I would hope that it would not cause us to step on each other toes. I notice sometimes it happens when a few of us are on already. I have locked a couple of threads just to have realized I unlocked them when the server caught up. Meh we can handle what comes. Just need you all to report it and not add to the problem is all.

I don't think it is us you need to worry about. But like I said, some temporary moderators for the incoming traffic might help for a few weeks. Sure they would be temporary moderators, but you could also use that temporary privilege to test drive your best candidates for new mods.

I'm not going to say no, and I'm not going to say yes. Quite frankly, it's not in my place to decide. Sure with the upcoming influx of people visiting the site, it'll be a little harder for the ninjas to manage but if the members do their part and report the offenders it shouldn't be a problem. Sure there's pros and cons but it's up for the webteam to decide, not the members.

No offense to you, Im not trying to pick on you. But this is the perfect example of a suck up post. It is basically asking the moderators to be a mod without truly asking. Why? Because it says something without progressing the discussion at all due to complete neutrality on the subject. If you really knew it wasn't your say, you wouldn't post. While most people do, they like to hope and will just voice their opinions in the hopes they get picked to be a moderator. Others try to show off their neutral stance and trust in the mods to try to get on their good side.

Sorry to pick you, but it really isn't personal.

I'm guessing that most of the people who voted "Yes" have a sliver of hope that they might get a position. Because of that, I personally wouldn't trust the poll's results because many votes reflect a strive for personal gain as opposed to a true feeling that more moderators are needed.
Honestly, I don't think that more mods are needed. IMO, if new moderators are coming on board, though, they shouldn't be from the US (or,I guess they could be extreme night-owls). I feel as though the forums generally have a perfectly fine amount of "patrolling". There are some times at night where things can get a little rampant.

At the same time, that's not the problem. It's too bad that this place needs as many ninjas as it has. Perhaps instead of hiring more cops to punish the criminals, we should try to lower the crime rate. Just my two cents.

I like being picked... it makes me feel special. Also, I wasn't being entirely neutral I basically said we have enough and the current amount of ninjas that we have would suffice if the members also stayed on top. But you can read whatever you want into what I say.

You do know VII Toast was a mod right... So the story goes the spam was too much so toast swore to leave bungie forever however Achronos chained him to his computer with chains never rust, that never break so Toast remains strapped to his computer (which just reaches the bathroom and bowl of human facets filled monthly by Runningturtle) never to see the light of day again. So all you mod wannabes should think again. If you sign up there is no going back...

So vote people who like Running's excretion at least. Stosh nearly cracked and Running invented the original punishment so blame Stosh.

Strange evolution how people have come to believe
That we are it's greatest achievement
We're barely, we're just a collection of cells
Overrating themselves

I don't have enough time to harass the mods we already have, let alone new ones.

I know what you mean.

I'd love to have the moderators and Bungie Studios employees participate more, but their off-color text only incites too many members to quote them with irrelevent comments beneath the quotes, in an attempt (A futile one, I might add) to get attention.

Granted, I feel there's a sure fire way to increase the productivity of the community as a whole, but you moderators and site admins have already expressed negative attitude towards Elitism.

Im not saying that you are sucking up, its just the type of comment I see for about the first page of any one of these threads and then sparratically through the rest of the pages. People will show off neutrality to get plus from the moderators. Your point is a good one though. The moderators have survived large number of members before, so why should we change now? I just feel that the moderators will have to be changed sooner or later, so why not do it smoothly rather than in one fell confusing swoop.

No, we have enough moderators and they do a good job.

Not possible. Moderators have actual jobs, families, and other responsibilites that take precedence over a non-paying responsibility.

Frankly, members should moderate themselves. I'm sick of people complaining about crap that they actually have control over.

  • 08.21.2007 9:53 AM PDT

Well a bunch of the mods on the list don't really post that much or are inactive of late.

I don't know, it seems to me that whenever something illegal pops up on the Halo 3 forum, it seems to be dealt with quick enough by a moderator...so right now, no. Maybe after Halo 3 comes out, then this site will be really active.

And mods aren't chosen based on the current number of mods we have now, they are chosen when Bungie thinks we need more.

True, all this talk about...TAHT'S TEH OLD! YOU PHAIL! Is really...really irritating every time you see it...a simple 3-day black list to whoever does annoying crap like that would fix it I think...

But there are enough mods (I think) currently to be around enough...no need right now for some new ones.

When scans, leaks or Terms of Service violations start slipping by unnoticed by a moderator for about....maybe two or three hours...then this site may need new mods...

  • 08.21.2007 10:45 AM PDT

And I wonder if they feel like I do...that something else has just shown up, with its own locked and loaded magazine of manifest destiny, set to bring forth a new kind of reckoning...

its not the people that say TAHTS TEH OLD! YOU PHAIL! that bother me. its the people who post the same stuff over and over again and clog up the forums with repeat posts (brute -blam!-, anyone?), and also those who get away with blatant violations of the rules. (anyone see the political discussion in the halo 3 forums that lasted for 6 pages?).
