You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

I was thinking about this the other day. With all the talk I hear of no clan support for Halo 3 does this mean we shall see groups regain their original purpose? I for one hope so. It would be nice to see groups become a very integral part of the community again. With no clan support the only way to arrange matches or to hold virtual lans will be through the group pages.

If this is the case on Sept. 25th will we see a redesign of the groups along with other things hinted to us? What do you all think? Do you think we could get this and if so which features would you guys want to see?

  • 08.21.2007 9:50 AM PDT

If they do update the features in groups, I hope they are not offline for a long time doing so.

I do hope for clan support but it doesn't matter. My group is ready and we are excited.

Good to hear. I was thinking maybe a calendar on the front page would be a good addition. Also a group PM button for admins to send out the word about a get together.

  • 08.21.2007 9:56 AM PDT

That calendar idea is a great idea, and I know I've heard requests for the admin PM feature before.
What I think would be even better is if the groups had a chat feature that opened somewhat like your friends list currently does.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

I think the most important feature necessary (not one needed just for inter-group matches) is the Group PM feature. I and many others have tried to get this idea noticed in the past, but it largely goes unnoticed.

For shame.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

Aw, when I saw that you had posted this topic, I thought it was going to be about you reliving your days as a downhill skiier at the 1932 Olympics.

Anyway, this is exciting! I'd like to see the following:

Foman's Group Wish List

* Search within group forums, including restrictors by group, date, subject line, and content.

* Member search and/or more members per page on the member page listing (just try to find a guy whose name starts with "Spartan" in CompoundIntelligence)

* A return of useful text formatting features such as [list] (indented, bulleted lists with multiple levels), [*] (creates a text bullet with no muss, no fuss), and [hr] (creates a horizontal rule to break a page up neatly).

* In news post summaries, the character limit should be the actual DISPLAYED characters -- not the HTML characters for links and color changes.

* A PM all members and a PM all <insert security role here>s feature, WITH OPT-OUT options for anyone who does not want a flooded inbox to be a condition of joining a group that they otherwise like.

* I'd like to see that idea from a few months ago implemented: users with high enough "trust ratings" (using the hidden trust rating system) can post and embed photos in group forums using the [img] tag. Picture posting has always happened here anyway through "URL" links and the embedding bug, so why not, in a group, allow the pictures to be displayed on your screen without having to click?

* Perhaps limited file hosting? Bungie Pro FTW! I'm kind of neutral on this one though.

* An Iris group theme (had to throw it in)

Groups may not get immediate love depending on the schedule, but we are looking at them as a place to create addition functionality post ship at the very least.

The good news is that we have so many ideas for features that we can add lots of new things for a long time, on a regular schedule.

The bad news is that we can't do it all at once.

Thanks for the info. Anything you do is appreciated, even if we have to wait till after shipping of Halo 3.

I would love to see the groups become a more integral part of the website and community again. A calender on the front page as well as in the groups to show everyone dates of clan games and whatnot would be a really nice feature.

  • 08.21.2007 11:53 AM PDT

I never really used the groups/clans for Halo 2, but I was looking forward to expanding on that feature when Halo 3 came out with a few people from other sites. However, when I was told that Clans wouldn't be a part of Halo 3, it didn't bother me too much...

Get it roon' ye!

Damn! There goes the much - vaunted return of Benefit Fraud, the ultimate rank 2 group!
It makes me sad that groups aren't involved, maybe when the Bungie staff is all rested up they could do an update?

"Because if you're comitting Benefit Fraud, we're on to you!" :'(

I always thought that it'd be nice to be able to set your type of group.

For example, either a regular group, or a clan group.

All clan groups (unless they're on probation) would be listed on some clan page and perhaps there could be a way of groups messaging each other to arrange matches. Or, even better, a way to see if X amount of members of a clan group are currently online.

Then again, I wouldn't be very disappointed even if there was no Bungie.net clan integration. Plus, there's supposedly a "leaked list" of features in the next Dashboard update that includes clan functionality, so if that's true, we also have to keep that in mind.

That would be very cool to see a reborn use for the groups. Instead of having clans in-game, they could have them on Bungie.net. ;)

It'd be cool to have Group Leaderboards. Just have a system that would allow group members to compare their "skill" to each other's.

Well don't count clans out yet. There are talks of Xbox-wide clan systems.
*crosses fingers*

Like official talks? Or just internet rumors? Some clarification that M$ is actually thinking about this would just make my day :D

Just because Clan support isn't directly integrated into Halo 3 doesn't mean that you can't use the Chapter system here to accomplish the same thing.

I think this would only work if you could broadcast messages to gamertags in the group.

A clan leaderboard on the front page and in groups showcasing the top however many clans in the game. That would be a cool thing, you could then click each of the clans names and if they have a group on b.net you could challenge them via a submenu and it would send a request to them for a challenge. Food for thought.

I made my own solution but it only looks like the old hr on Internet Explorer sadly on other browsers it just looks like a quote-less quote box which is quite narrow here is a side-by side comparison hosted by jmh's modwatch site link. The tutorial can be seen here, it may help. The New [hr] Tutorial

I totally agree with you. This is a problem that needs fixing because it is quite frankly very annoying when you can post more writing in the default font than you can in formatted text.

Good idea! A calendar would be a great addition for plotting events and I would also like to see a group chat box because using gabbly really sucks! Plus a who is online feature which shows users that a members browsing any page in the group.

* A PM all members and a PM all <insert security role here>s feature, WITH OPT-OUT options for anyone who does not want a flooded inbox to be a condition of joining a group that they otherwise like.
The message all members idea has been asked for many times but with this extra feature I think it would be a really great add on for professional organising, good idea.

Personally I would love groups to be used instead of clans. I personally would like group humpdays to start taking place in the near future. My group has done a few internal humpdays but I hope when Halo 3 comes out there will be a larger community with perhaps group leaderboards, that'd rock. Perhaps clans could only be established when a group reaches a certain size with at least a certain number of members with active gamertags. Then the group acts as a clan HQ. Of course it'll never happen but I'm just bowling the ball so perhaps somebody else hits a six.

Again what I was saying about humpdays. This could be a good idea this ties into my idea about groups being the only way for clans in halo 3.

I have suggested this many a time before we all want it, hopefully it will be only a matter of time. Also if you could use this feature for other BB codes such as [color], [hr] and aligning codes it would be good. PLUS what about special colour text being assigned to security roles, I want gold text lol.

8. Posted by: x Foman123 x

Lol that would be pretty cool but it will probably never happen. Perhaps custom avatars in groups for people giving the security privilege for a custom avatar, it might work and I would like to see it although it is more of a novelty and isn't needed.

9. Posted by: x Foman123 x
* An Iris group theme (had to throw it in)
Well CI need it I guess... I think it would be better if custom themes were allowed but people would abuse it so again maybe groups they could have only groups with at least 50 members and which have existed for at least 3 months can have custom themes. If people abuse a custom theme their group is deleted (there could be a report button). If people have established groups which they will with over 50 members and 3 months hard work they will not want to get their groups deleted so the problem resolves itself!
