Heyyo,
Heh, HaloPC should actually run smooth on almost all PC's according to the original xbox specs, but due to that new engine gearbox created not being fully optimized, we fall short of that... VERY short... I would've waited an extra month for HaloPC if that meant I could crank the detail settings and have low, or no framerate losses. 4 things that really beat down the framerate is the bump-mapping (which shouldn't since it's just 2d layers ontop of eachother..) the shaders (this OBLITERATES the framerates... which's why for HaloCE gearbox implemented the better "fast shaders" so they wouldn't be soo horrible... they're still bad, but not as bad as HaloPC...), and the particles (this one always seems to sap up a lot of gpu power on many games... and HaloPC seems to hate them more than most other games... if you've ever played games like Doom3 or Half Life 2, the particle effects seem to be more efficient and not sap the crap outta your framerate when inna big firefight....), and last but definately not least, polygon loading. SWEET BEJEBUS does this sap the crap outta framerates! Far Cry has MASSIVE terrains, at least twice the amount of polygons than HaloPC maps, and that game runs fine on my comp... on timberland, if I look across the level, the framerate dies to 10F/S...
