Maybe i'm just stupid, but i was confused about what the green plant like monster thing was
is it a forerunner or just a random entity that bungie stuck in the game to make up for a lack of storyline?

-If you haven't guessed, SPOILERS ahead.-

First off, it's Gravemind. Presumably a Flood leader of some sort. Secondly, if you think there was no storyline.. maybe you should try playing single player? Multiplayer doesn't have a story!

Yes... the thing that looks like it comes from little shop of horrors is apparently linked to the flood - presumably a leader. Bungie hasn't confirmed this theory but it's the most logical.
Halo 2 has one of the most detailed storylines you are ever likely to find - did you skip all the cutscenes or something?
Aside from this please keep all threads pertaining to Halo 2 in General or the Campaign in NEW MOMBASSA

The Gravemind is the Flood's "Queen". Like the Queen in Aliens or the Overmind in Starcraft. Of course it does'nt want to starve to death, so like a king, have someone else fight for you!

-----SPOILER AHEAD-----
(If you have not beaten the game and seen the ending cutscene AFTER the credits turn your weak minds away from the screen!)

Alright, from my sources, I believe (as do my sources) that the "Queen" (AKA Big Parasite Thingy of Doom) IS in fact the leader of the Flood, BUT! We also think that, after seeing the "queen" and Cortana talk at the very end where the queen wants answers and Cortana says, "shoot", Cortana may control the flood in the long awaited Halo 3! Which I'm sure will leave the average Halo-player with many more questions...so, THIS IS JUST RUMORS AND THEORYS NOT SOLID INFORMATION!

Let's just assume that everything after this sentence is a spoiler, including every post after mine.

It's pretty doubtful, Sargent, that even Gravemind has control of the Flood. S/he could just be the biggest, most powerful Flood, and likes to do things that will benefit the rest of the race. Go play a level with the Flood again, and ask yourself: Does that look like an organized army?
