I am not only going to NOT go on B.net Sept. 25th, but the whole week of Sept. 25th, just so i can bask in the glory of Halo 3 & not encounter anything resembleing a spoiler.

The only solution that I think would really have a chance would be for the Bungie employees moderating. They know what happens, so spoilers don't spoil anything for them.

The Bungie employees will be rolling in their money, listening to tech nine, slapping their women and pouring expensive liquor in their pools. =]

Can someone give a reason, NOT too turn to forums off, to help everyone avoid spoilers. Heck, there might be another upside, all the hyper ADD children might not have the patience to wait 2 days to join b.net and not join. lol.

The best thing to do of instead trying to make an "antidote" for this toxin is to instead just avoid the source of the toxin all togeather
(just avoid any halo site to avoid spoilers is the point of that analogy)

You know, I just thought of something. I am going to get onto B.net on the 25th at the busiest time I can, go to the Halo 3 forum, not read any titles, and just see how many pages of topics there are with the little green symbol next to them.

Because they are discussion forums. People who are not playing the game may want, and deserve to be able to, discuss anything that is on-topic for a particular forum.

Fear of spoilage shouldn't be a reason to stop dialog.

When Halo 2 came out, the forums were busy, but understandably so. Some were happy, others not, everyone who had something to say was allowed to say it (within the guidelines).
Well thats the last time I try to help you :)

If I were a mod, I'd pick up the game as early as possible (midnight) and play through the Campaign on Easy as fast as possible just to get the in-game experience of learning the story myself.

Then again, I'm glad that I'm not a moderator right now. September 25 will be hell, but at least you guys won't get a pay cut if you slack off.

Mods don't get paid mang. =]

I'VE GOT IT! (not really)

Why not have a page come up before entering the forums (not a pop-up, but another page.), and it would say what the rules are, and what can happen if you break the rules. After about 5 seconds, a link will appear that says "Click here to continue to the __________ forum."

Really though, will the discussion, the day after the game comes out, be productive.

  • 08.22.2007 8:11 PM PDT

Lol...the mods don't have to stay here all day long and delete spoilers...

Chances are..they too along with all of us will just stay off the forums until the game is beat or something like that...then clean up.

2 things I fear most: Another "french" leak.
And people putting spoilers in thread titles.

You fear the french?

Anti-spoiler protection:

1. Go to circuit break box.
2. Find master switch.
3. shut off master switch.

I can't get the game till Sep 26th (stupid european release date), so I really doubt i'll be moderating the 25th, bbecause I just know you guys will spoil it for me.

I won't spoil anything for you....promise!! In fact, go on MSN on the 25th and we can have a nice chat of my first impressions of Halo 3, okay?

I was here during the Beta release problems. The highest I saw it go was 22 pages of green symbols.
I reckon that little PB is about to be broken on the 25th though. However, I believe that angry fanboys post more than placcid, happy fanboys.
Imagine the number of posts if Halo 3 had a manufacturing error!

The Aussies get it a day earlier than the US due to their Crazy timezones. So the real problem will be Aussies ruining for everyone on the 24th.

If I remember correctly, we were given leave to not moderate the forums after Halo 2 came out until we had played all the way through.

Actually, I think what happened was that after the leak most of us said "-blam!- this, I refuse to do this" so we would avoid spoilers and Sketch was like "yeah fair enough dudes". A few of us were still brave enough to do it though. I followed the advice of Maka (I think it was him?) who said you could spot spoilers without reading them if you squinted really hard. It was actually surprisingly effective.

I think Sketch also offered to send us early copies (though -blam!- man it was a long time ago so get off my back) but decided that most of us probably had pre-orders already. Stosh got one early I think. I don't think I would have really got one early though, and if I did it would probably have been NTSC which is no help.

Still, it would have been nice to get it early. Halo 2 came out on the second day of my final year high school exams.

Anyway, moral of the story: Sketch should give all the moderators who aren't dicks a free copy of Halo 3 a week early. So everyone exept TGP. Nobody trusts that guy and is happy about it afterwards. I'm pretty sure nobody has ever thought "man I am glad I trusted TGP".

You've got to think crazy, of course, because you only get innovation by refining insanity. - Jason Jones

For the release of halo 2 i stayed away from the forums for a week prior and until I finished. I only visited the front page. For halo 3 I will do the same, only I will frequent the front page and the stats section.

Why not pull the forums down for one day, so then anyone can play without getting spoiled?

Seriously...kind of

Because any of us (mods included) can personally shut down the forums by simply not visiting the site.

Every member (ninjas included) has the ability to make themselves "spoiler-proof" with that simple step. It is just up to each of us to decide when the risk of being spoiled is too great or the time to exercise that option.

Yesh... but it's the joy of the moment. Some random kid who just bought Halo3, beats it on easy (Which i'm totally not going to do, Heroic ftw), comes and quickly gets an account on Bungie.net, doesn't even bother to look at the rules and regs, just comes in a posts a total spoiler, not thinking of us others who haven't gotten the change to play the game yet, or finish it, because he can't handle the excitement he just had because of Halo3's awesomeness, and the joy of beating it on easy (which is quite easy imo)
Personally, I might (if I can't play Halo3, which I probably could) I'ma spend the day PhotoShopping... <_< I should do fan art. Ftw.

It'll be a harsh day indeed. Remember the day the Public version of the Beta was released. 300 pages of topics in 1 day. I can barely imagine what it will be like on the actual release date.

Its not going to matter if the forum is moderated or not. Even if evey ninja focused only on the Halo 3 forum, they wont even put a dent in the number of repeat topics, spoilers, spam, etc, etc.

I have absolutely no problems with the Halo 3 forum being completely unmoderated for the first week after release.

For Halo 2, I didnt finish the campaign until January and managed to not read any spoilers. Hopefully Achronos will break up the forums into multiplayer, campaign, etc for Halo 3's release.
