I have a thread telling people not to post the ending to halo 3 in the halo 3 forum.

I would like to interject with a:
"HECK YES THE FORUMS SHOULD BE CLOSED ON SEPTEMBER 25TH!"

In order to prevent any spoilers going through B.net, why not just take the step forward and let the site be down for the day? I means seriously, it's like Christmas Day for most Halo fanatics; why should we have to force ninja's to sift through spoilers before they are able to play the game? They have to be here in order to moderate and delete/lock the spoiler threads, so that means they will be forced to see spoilers.

Treat your employees/volunteers with dignity, and let them have Christmas without spoilers.

I suggest beating the game before moderating moderators. Don't let anyone spoil the game for you. You're not getting paid for the work you do. It's not worth it.

Blame stosh for the damn spoilers.....

Haha, watch stosh make thread after thread with spoilers in all of them. That's be a sight to see.

Hmmmm.

Some of you guys seem to think the moderators are actually going to be on b.net on and around September 25. You are obviously on drugs. Lots and lots of drugs.

Here is how my list of options looked on November 9, 2004:
1. Moderate Bungie.net and read and delete spoiler threads;
2. Play Halo 2; or
3. Study for the four exams I had in the next few days.

Obviously I chose option number 2. I might have done a little bit of study in my spare time.

The forums and TEH SPOILZEZ weren't even considered.

My advice is to just avoid the forums altogether. The mods won't be here and it'll be ugly. After a day or two they will begin to trickle back in after finishing the game.

Recon should be back by mid-December. 2012.

TGP will never be seen again. And that's assuming he has an Xbox 360. The more likely option is that he'll be sucked into an untimed game of LMOTH on Float. He'll be taking the role of the wight I sink and forget about.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

Hehe, thanks for the thought guys.

If the forums were shut down on the last week of September, it would simplify things for at least me. Though, I don't think shutting them down for that would be worth it. The forums are here so people who are fans can get together and discuss Bungie and its games. That's more important than my well being, or even the potential problems that we will encounter on Sept 25th,

I'm planning of moderating as much as I can. I look at it as though its a challenge. Its like taking a knife to a gun fight. The cliché may assert that its a bad idea, but I'm game.

I'll probably play Halo 3 on the weekend after Sept 25th.

True; there are many ways that shutting down the forums could be both good and bad. I just think that the "bad" side holds more weight.

I just can't imagine how much worse the uprisings could be if the forums were to be shut down. In the end, shutting down the forums wouldn't benefit towards anybod in any way.

The best way to protect yourselves from spoilers would be to stay away from the forums. It's the only way that you can be 100% safe from spoilers.

The Frozen Minority; Bungie's real underground. The oldest members, the deepest controversy, walking infamy.

I'm not sure how it is going to work but if the release is, like Halo 2's, internationally identical, then I will get mine earlier than the greater population of the forums. One advantage of being where I am.

So my plan, if I get Halo 3 before the kiddies here, is to beat the game and RUIN it for ANYONE who is a jerk in the leadup to release. Imagine getting a message with your ban saying "Chief marries Cortana at the end of Halo3".

Look out, idiots!

Halo3Planet, the place for all things Halo 3..

Need help finding skulls, make sure to go here.

September 25th list:
1. Bring Pezza flowers.
2. Buy Halo 3

Anyway, there really isn't a good reason to shut down the forums. Anyone who wants to discuss Halo 3, should be allowed to, no matter what. If people want to risk reading spoilers, then they stay away from the forums, easy as that. The moderators don't even have to moderate on that day. They are volunteers, who, to the best of my knowledge, set their own hours. So, the ones who don't want the game spoiled for them will beat the game, and then come moderate. That's really the best way to do it.

The forums will be hectic around September 25, they will need moderating.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

I understand the arguement of BUngie.net being a "public forum", but I feel that in order to make a honest-to-God thread regarding the game, fans should have at least owned the game for a good 24 hours, justifying a 1-day-lockdown.

Frank O'Connor is a 12-year veteran of the videogame magazine industry and has therefore never worked an honest day in his life.

This is just a thought but we can create topics pretty easily. So why not make a topic for it that can contain spoilers. It would at least make most of the legit users that want to talk about that stuff have a place to go. Of course one of the mods would have to make sure nothing bad is in there but in general it will cut down on the amount of spam/spoiler post that are here.

I am a Floodian

It would work in theory, but not enough people read stickies.

Yeah a spoiler topic would be great, but this is the Halo 3 forum we're talking about.

I'm sure hundreds of kids (I'm not using "kids" as derogatory, I literally mean children between the ages of 10-16, or whatever) are going to create accounts just to talk about plot spoilers and multiplayer complaints (or constructive critique.)

I wish there was a way, but I honestly don't see any changes being made from now until Sept. 25th. I can see why Achronos is gambling on the "Stay off the forums" for the end-all cure-all, but I'm just worried some people are gonna be preeeety upset when they scroll through the Halo 3 forum and see things they don't want to see.

But for now, his logic works best. If you don't want to be spoiled, take a day off Bungie.net (or until you finish the game.)

Here's an idea: members can't make new topics, but can reply. This way can only reply to the official stickies, rather than posting spoilers in new thread titles, and spam will be reduced. Should be easier to moderate.

I highly doubt it will happen. I want to moderate and make sure things go right, but I don't want Halo 3 to be ruined for me either.

That, in my opinion, would be pretty good. Would allow the forums to still be open, yet nobody could spam the main forums, instead they could spam their groups. In any case though, I agree with what stosh said, the mods/you, should not worry about moderating on that day. Hell, you guys do deserve it, and many people that help out most likely won't be on, due to spoilers, which will make the moderating that much more tougher. Sure, when the going gets tough you keep going, but there is nothing said about taking a day break. ;)

Existing topics would get spammed with "why can't I create?" and "since I can't create.... here's a spoiler".

Probably. :/

Recon, that is very true. But what if you were to make a thread dedicated to spoilers, multiplayer topics, level discussion, enemy discussion, then lastly, one topic for theorists? As for other forums, maybe a 'help' topic, and then a topic for general discussion for everything about that forum? Yes, many people won't really abide by them, as usual, but it would reduce the mounds of spam that you must tread through. And yes, I am just throwing this out there, expanding of JAF's idea, if you will.
